how do I view a sequence of frames rendered in Maya.
is there a way to render a mov /avi file (as in not sequence)

FCheck? and yes you can render .avi or .mov .... which I wouldn't recommend

fcheck - from where? I used show batch render

I dont see avi/mov in the "image format" in the rendering settings..

Windows > Program Files > Autodesk Maya
Macintosh > Applications > Autodesk Maya

.avi works if you are in Windows
.mov works if you are in Mac

It isn't a good idea to render a .mov or .avi out of a batch render. If you render a movie and the render crashes part way through, you have nothing. If you render to an image sequence however and you crash, you can pick up from the last frame rendered. As for saving out the movie file, I usually use DJ_view(I think that is what it is called) or nuke or QuickTime pro to play back the image sequence, and I can save a .mov from nuke or QT pro.
