I have been puzzled about how to approach the task of making wet soil cracking in houdini. I am recently working on a project that requires plant buds poking out of wet soil. I wish it would look something similar to this:

Hello,

Modeling a base geometry with the look you want then fracturing it with cracks, then developing a custom mud/soil shader and finally wet map technique (You can find some Peter Quint's Wet Map Tutorials on vimeo.com) to get the damp look?

Dont have a soil shader but i guess this will do too,
