First ideas for a structure and possible focus for the picture. Thought I'd better get something in or i'd never start. Comments welcome.

Couldn't move the old concept on and it didn't fit with the scene description so scrap that and start again. Here we are - sort of walkways in the sky (maybe)

interesting concept although I'm finding it a little hard to wrap my mind around right now. I can't wait to see more though!

As modeling starts the concept grows. One step at a time. First go at the 'sky callers'
I see you are using truespace for this competition,I can't wait to see the end result being a TS user myself.
Good look with your entry it looks interesting.

On working on my previous concepts I was always ending up at a dead end. On combination of previous ideas I have this. Needs lots of work but I think the idea is sound.

I like your simple color concept, those big mountain cones are pretty good swimming into that dense fog,and the wire look connectors are giving nice perspective and composite...
Morlankey: interesting concept although I'm finding it a little hard to wrap my mind around right now.

Thanks for the positive comment Designer2. I feel that having the background disappear into fog is a bit of a easy option - alien landscape - must be misty.... Hey but I'm still at the concept stage so who knows what my head will do next ( I don't) :)

I don't know where this sits in the concept/modelling/lighting categories. Just thought it was cool effect

Just about sorted out the background. Use of subdivision for arches.

hey your last model post looks nice.... You've come a long way with your imagery. I also like the look of the "dark" image.... uh... 3 posts ago. I like the feel of it.... I'm diggin on the wire/tubes you've started on, too... It definitely is getting the detail it needs... nice work! I'll check back!

Completed modeling. Will need some adjustment during the next stages also on reviewing original competition description.
I think this is not at all bad, more very interesting. Can't wait to see more.
Best

Texturing of background and creation of sky. All work in progress. Also inclusion of test glow on light cones. Comments welcome. Also more time :0)

Thanks to imscifi and eska for their positive comments. Have run into problems with the lower 'tubes'. Software keep crashing when texturing so its either sort or remove as the deadline is approaching.
Once again thanks - thats put a spring in my step and a determination to crack it..:)

Texturing foreground objects (still unable to solve crashing so some parts removed) Some remodelling needed also greater detail - some parts are too blank.

Just part of the background and used as an example. But is it too dark or too light. Are all peoples monitors the same and how does it compare to the printed page. Comments very very welcome.

Added local lights under arches to bring out curves also one infinite light for sky. Makes my P2/450 sweat a bit.

Testing lighting blur using original image gaussian blurred and applied as a mask.

nice work... I hope you will add the elements you removed back in in post.
Otherwise, I think you should keep pushing the lights. make it a little more contrasty.
Also... could you put a subtle glow on thos blue crystal things? And maybe have a soft light coming from them.

Final image - composed of three layers.
Sky + towers, background arches, foreground central area + walkway. Each layer took +10hrs (P2/450) to render (Blur applied to lights at required layer)
Good luck everyone.
it is imposant. Good done.
And best luck:thumbsup:  :wavey:
