God why? That's all I can say. They could have done a fantastic movie of AvP. Word is that there are extremely good comics and novels on the subject, but instead they opt this hackneyed teenage thriller script. I'm so sad. I'm also very sad that they apparently cannot even get their grammer correct at the end, the tagline is "Whoever wins... we lose"? How about "Whomever wins... we lose." Whatever happened to professionalism? Well, I'm sure it will be cool in the way that Freddy Vs. Jason was cool, but it's also sure to be a "romp" film instead of something that we all look back at as a classic like it could be.

the premise of that movie sounds like crap. instead of "teenage werewolf in london" it's "teenage predator in antartica"
maybe it's just the way he worded it though. perhaps it wouldve been better if they had some marketting gurus describe it?

No man, no. It'll be cool, Qal'Thax, the jock predator gets a call from his girlfriend while they're out on the hunt and gives away their position to the aliens, he dies and it is of course, up to Jung'Qapac, the nerd/techy predator of the group to get them out of a bind, winning the heart of Tal'Thalos, the hearthrob predator of the movie. Of course, in a twist at the end, Pung'Tusa, the jock predator's buddy is jealous and mad that not only his friend died, but the nerd wins the day. He travels off towards the remainder of the Alien nest to make a "deal" just as the curtain falls and AvP2 gets the greenlight, "Alien Vs. Predator: Predator Wedding".

Adam Sandler vs.. Bob barker..(awesome)
when will it end before it becomes uncool..two good movies ruined in one fell swoop..now all they need is a no name actress to show us her armoured boobs and the cycle of crap will be complete...how can i bash a movie that hasnt been made...because a bunch of hollywood stereotypes with cell phones glued to thier heads got togther and said.".Hey we dont have an original idea in our heads..how bout we mash 2 movies together and make tons of bottled water money to wash our b.m.ws and, or mercedes.." i wont be waiting with baited breath for this one..and niether should any of you..

To be fair, this isnt just a flick of the wrist decision. People have been talking about an Alien vs. Predator story ever since the first Predator film. Then seeing the Alien skull in the Predator's ship in Predator 2 as well as the Alien vs Predator video game just added to the hope that these two would some day meet on screen. I believe that there have been countless Alien vs Predator scripts floating around Hollywood for over a decade. Hell, I know a guy who created an Alien vs Predator script.
Obviously a lot of execs think mashing two series that have run their courses together they can produce a money-making project. And based on what makes money, I can see their reasoning. Just remember that some suit didnt just dream this up yesterday. Hopefully due to the overwhelming flux of ideas, they can wring out some decent film.

Actually, "Whoever wins... we lose" is perfectly correct grammar. And that's the way grammar is spelt, with an "a", not an "e".
If you really feel the need to use "whomever", you'd have to restructure the sentence to: "Whomever it is that will win... we lose". Not quite so snappy now is it?

Nahh sometimes this flux of ideas is just the MBAs and beancounters coming up with what they think might be cool, and coupled with Paul Anderson's antics this is not good news. At least the gyus from Brandywine (the Alien series production company), Giler, Walter Hill and Gordon Carroll had a good sense of how to do a movie, even under difficult conditions (Alien 3 in particular).

I dunno man. It's hardly going to win any academy awards, but I think it could well turn out alright. Come on, we all love a good battle royale...
Oh my...
Now i'm counting the days for this release, i'm a avid predator and aliens fan and this movie will fill the gap on the francise!
There's also a behind the scenes mov with the director Paul Anderson, its a nice featurette about the production!
In some part he mentions that there will be diferent predators and aliens as well, like diferent classes with diferent abilities!
Man can't wait!

I dont know. many saw the story boards and etc for "Pirates of The Carebeaon" and that proved untrue.
People have been waiting for the movie since Pred II came out and they saw the Alien head skeleton plastered on the ship of Predator.
Cant be no worse than "Reloaded" i think its going to shock a lot of people.

W0rd sheep factory. there is no need to complain. None of you have seen the movie and your allready complaining. A directors past movies should play some part in your decision to see a movie, but it shouldn't be the only factor. For example, that guy that directed the LOTR trilogy (peter jackson i think..), most of his movies are really really weird cult classics. I mean come on, Dead Alive and Meet the Feebles? Those are WEIRD!!!!!!!!!!! :)

nah, its more than that.. its a bunch of comic and scifi dorks (myself included) that have split into 2 camps:
1. the movie is gonna suck.. waah.
2. the movie is going to be great...yaay.
either way: most will see it, everyone will hate it, it wont live up to either camps expectations for plot/efx/casting/screenwriting/whatever. people will bitch and moan. it happens with every eagerly awaited release, and people just looooove to bitch about movies.
you never can really tell though... did anyone here actually take the lord of the rings seriously when it was announced that, king of trash himself, Peter Jackson, was heading up the project??
it could be as bad as 'kill bill', or as good as 'the royal tennenbaums'
/edit: hehe, 2 peter jackson references typed at the same time. sweet.

When i was a little boy, i used to ask my dad the usual naive little boy questions like "Dad who is stronger, a bear or a tiger? If they fight together, who is going to win?"
That sums up pretty well my oppinion about Bad Guy1 VS Bad Guy2 kind of movies. There is no scenario, only glowing green blood and acid spilled everywhere. I wouldn't expect anything more from a director that is so excited over an advanced alien version of a japanese shuriken. Oh well.. At least you'll get to see something while eating your popcorn... :hmm:

I HOPE that this director can do justice to this franchise. He hosed up the very popular resident evil but that's just my opinion. The thing that grates on my nerves is that directors for the most part have forgotten how to cinematically deliver crushing psychological fear. Alien and Aliens were rollercoaster rides from hell. The last two "Alien films" were jokes. Predator was a damn fine deathtrap scenario as well. Predator 2, not bad. If this director can pull this off and not completely hack this franchise to pieces, I'll be amazed but I'm not holding my breath.

From the man who brought us those 'Classic' films Soldier and Resident Evil, this movie can't help but be awsome. Can you smell the sarcasm? Why this guy, there are tons of up and coming directors who could do great things with this. And I have read the synopsis of the film as I am sure many of you have to, and it sounds terrible. I wonder what the final budget of this thing will be? Always seems like the less story the more money on these action/scifi films.

Half way done or not, are you aware of this directors current track record? If it bombs in the summer of 2004 will you STILL come back to this post? The point is this: why put such an incredible source of good concepts and past storys into the hands of another cinematic chump?
Consider the beginings of James Cameron and Ridley Scott, they never strayed from a level of quality- ESPECIALLY with their first projects.
Let's not forget that Anderson also squeezed out those oldie but goodies Mortal Kombat and Event Horizon too. My, how everybody remembers those knockout flicks!
I'm a realist and I'm not feeling too enthusiastic about this. Bummer.

I wouldnt call the Director a chump. and from what Ive sene of the concept and story-line this looks tight as hell. In reality the big wigs of cameron and crew would never do a Pred vs Alien movie and in keeping the price tag down for say budget and sequels I say this pretty much falls under the normal strategy of how hollywood works.
in Pre-Production it looks promising.

no doubt the movie fx will look bad ass!!..thats because most artists are bad ass!!..but good writers are hard to come by..and i,'m pretty sure these types of movies dont get good writers..not that it matters..the first alien..and predator movies were,nt well known for their brilliant scripts..just good old competent directing and editing...ect ect..
see toxic avenger..that movie:buttrock: sssss.. laura Dern F$!@ a huge mutant freak..and people get their arms ripped off...

after watching the featurette, I have a little more to add to the discussion... yes, the director said he had a passion for the alien franchise, but I really couldn't tell from the way he told us about his supposed "passion". it almost seemed like he said it because he knew the fans would want to hear it.
I mean, when Peter Jackson was talking about making the LOTR movies, you could sense the man's passion for the material. he got EXCITED about it. this guy directing AvP is either stoned out of his mind, or not all that excited about the film he's making... at least he doesn't seem to be.
don't get me wrong, I'd love for this movie to be great. but I won't be expecting it. I've found that approach helps me enjoy movies more often. the less I expect from a movie like this, the easier it will be for said movie to impress me. we'll see what happens.

Wow are we measuring people's expectations now? I love AVP movie and concept but I wouldnt put on the same scale as LOTR. Totally differant and peoples excitement r differant.
Calm down people.

Ex-bloody-actly. Saying Anderson's going to ruin this "great concept" is a bit silly really.
Sheep: Thanks for the additional link early on. Helped clear up some confusions (even though a few people still obviously didn't watch it before posting questions)
I can't believe i missed the alien head in the ship of Predator 2!! Man, that's sweet, but i feel like a bone-head.
My side rant: (can i join in? :) )
I don't understand the need to make this into a MASSIVE battle movie (ala LOTR style). With thousands of aliens swarming about. Predators AND Aliens are both efficient killers and both managed to kill with skill and not numbers in the past. You would lose a lot of the tension, which made these movies scary/exciting.
With thousands of corpses, I PERSONALLY lose interest and just yawn as yet another corpse falls to the ground. Happened in LOTR and happend in the newest Star Wars. Cool to watch, but gets boring quick.

Well alien vs. predator. Its been talked about for the last 10 years, and I think alot of these movies were waiting for the right time to relase movies like this.
With VFX and SFX at the level they are now, their is no reason not to do movies like freddy vs. jason and Alien vs Predator. I can see Alien vs. Predator alot more visually stimulating that FVJ, and their is alot they can do off of what they are going on.
Even if the plot ends up blowing you gotta realize the eyecandy that will be thier, hopefully will blow us outta the water.
