if you re fan of Weta workshop, there's a featurette on Weta's bigatures in the movie Master and commander, with a little cameo from Richard Taylor.

For a bit more info be sure to check the official website. On the Behind the Scenes section there are production notes in PDF which talks about the VFX work, the water tank, historical accuracy, the Galapagos, cast and crew etc.

I saw Master and Commander last night at the VES screening. The physical models that Weta did and the cgi versions that ILM did were pretty damn badass and they both seamlessly went together. It was pretty damn hard to tell the difference between the two from any one shot. They told us all the water was shot physically and they did alot of compositing work to get it all to go together. Again, seamless composite of the real water on both the cgi boat and the physical one.

Awsome job from both of them.
