Hey guys and gals,
I am currently a student and I am looking at doing a Compositing demo reel for my final project. I was wondering if anyone has any good links to others demos or anything like that.
What would you recomend for a demo reel as a compositor? What is the industry looking for?
Thanks for your help!

Compositor reels should show us what you did to the shot, if you show the final composited shot and it looks kick ass and you can't tell what you did to it, then great job.

Then show the process of getting there, what you started with before your final comp, original background plates, layers, elements, etc. Lots of times people do clever and interesting reveals of layers that build up to the final composite. be creative, but not so much that you take away from what your trying to show.

otherwise show the shot before and after, if your doing reveals and build ups, its good to show the final shot again right after so they can again see what you ended up with

its great to show that you were able to take all kinds of screwed up parts and mix them together for a kick ass seamless result.

employers will be looking for a great eye, color, composition, attention to detail, lighting, intigration skills, etc. if you got to just about any major studio's website they have descriptions for what they are looking for in a specific position.

digital domain - www.d2.com
rhythm and hues - http://www.rhythm.com/inside_randh/opportunities_compositors.shtml
tippett studio - http://www.tippett.com/jobs/detail/2d_comp.html

good luck.

They have good reels at www.methodstudios.com. All their artists have their reels up, only thing is they don't show how they got to the composited image. And some of them are so good, you can't even figure out what the hell they composited. Also some of their reels have the same stuff on it since I imagin they work as a team. Then their is www.planetpoint.com, this is a site that is full of demo reels, it has some good compositing ones but you gotta search a little more. That's all I can think of off the top of my head. Hope it helps
