Very annoying crash happening, any help?

This may not help. but it soundslike you have a bad node somewere? im not sure if such a thing exists or not, but when i was beta testing byrons poly tools his plug in at the beginning use to do that everytime i went to soft selectino on my model. and i think he said it had something to do whit his node. maybe your using a plug in or something that isnt bug free? other than that i have no idea, but it sounds like soemthing is wrong in your scene. have you tried exporting you mesh(s) as obj? and then start a new scene import it all back in, that should take care of all your history and what not. try that if that dont work i...well then imout of ideas, but im sure exporting it all and importing would fix it.

i recently had this +very+ same problem.
for me it was because i had installed a beta version script called APESplit. i got rid of it and that stopped the crashes.
maybe think if you have added any new scripts or plug-ins lately that could be the cause. try narrowoing it down if thats the case, turn off all plugs and move all scripts out of your maya user directory temporarily and see if you're still crashing. good luck.

Hm, i don't have any scripts installed, so I don't think that's the problem. This problem even happens when I start a mock up of a scene just to see if this problem happens from a fresh start, and it does.

but did you try turning off *all* plug-ins?
and you have _no_ mel scripts in your user directory.... wow, an iron will of Maya purity you have :D

can you import your old file into a new scene? and then save?
or is it like: startup, create cube, crash?

This is a pretty fresh install of Maya 5.0 so I didn't install any plugins yet. the only mel files are the ones that come in the install, but if i take out the folder maya won't start.

I've tried importing the object to a new file, and also deleted the history. I've tried it with history on and off, still no dice.

Maybe there's something wrong with what I'm trying to do? Well, if there's faces on something I should be able to extrude them. This also happens with a different file I've been working on. (trying to pull some horns out of a head)



I think I might have to reformat my whole harddrive. I've been having a lot of problems since I got my mobo replaces... :(Here's the file i'm working on now (http://www.thirtynights.com/error.jpg)

i dont know if you ahve done this already or not, but its like the best thing you can do for a comptuer after getting new mobo is to reformat and start new. i had a ton of things wrong with mine , no examples becuase i dont remember them all. but that was just while i was getting thigns going- to reformat. so if you havent alreayd please do. then msg back see if that fixes all, im sure it will.

Yeah I was actually gonna try this, but I was trying to see if it was a problem with the software. I don't know when I'm gonna reformat, but when I do i'll let you all know if it solves anything. Thanks for all the help guys

I got the same problem after installing Radian Square's Final Rig. I have got rid of it and now it appears stable.
