Of all the critics, the opinion of Roger Ebert holds the most weight with me (no pun intended) when it comes to animation.

I'm sure it's going to be a great movie, but this pair of so called critics are bought, and paid for if you ask me. When Gene Siskel was alive I trusted his opinion, but these two give the thumbs up movies that should go straight to video way too much.

Ahhhh....every time I hear about these two clowns I think back to a little movie called Carnisour which received the 2 thumbs up. I've never been able to take them seriously since.

Ebert is the last self appointed movie expert that I'd trust.

Doesn't mean he's wrong as even a broken clock is right twice a day.

Critics don't hold too much water as far as I'm concerned either.
I don't know if it is because they are getting paid to do it...perhaps more money is exchanging hands for a good rating. wink wink.

Or perhaps it's because they look at so many movies they tend to lose perspective.

At any rate, go to the movie and see for youself! That's the best way!!

The big problem with movie critics is that their ratings of a movie are simply opinion. For their reviews to be effective, you haveta share taste in movies with them. It's really not a matter of critics being competent, it's a matter of them being on the same level you are.

In other words, people can like or hate those guys and they'd be perfectly justified in doing so.

That said, I found the thumbs up for that movie amusging given Cinematographer's harsh comments about the topic a few days ago.

I'm just gonna post this review, and avoid reviewing it myself. :)

-----------
"Brother Bear" does pack in all the usual formula options -- Life Lessons in what's important; jaunty Broadwayish tunes; wise-cracking sidekicks; wrenching violence separating parents and offspring; improbable new friendships, blah blah blah.

But it's presented in a low-rent style with little passion or oomph. It feels like the moviemakers went through the motions because it's time again for a holiday season cartoon for the little ones. More about the appropriateness of this cartoon for children a bit later.

It is sad when movie critics get so burned out seeing movies that they loose their prespective, trashing films that they would have enjoyed if seen earlier in their career.

I think the only people worse at reviewing movies then a film critic are people who are members of CG-Talk. Worst Reviewers Ever! :p

Um....not sure but since you quoted me, are you aiming that comment directly at me?

Oh...that's what the 's' is for...thanks for pointing that out.
Still usually when you quote somebody it's because there is a direct response.
I was just trying to clarify, not start any kind of argument. Thanks for jumping in though.

No no no...and lastly, no :p

More just laughing at how heated movie reviews get on CG-Talk. Check one of the Hulk threads to see how insanely childish they can get.

To keep kind of on track, while I don't plan on seeing Brother Bear in theatres, I do hope it does well. As big a bunch of a-holes as Disney Execs seem, I know the creatives involved work their butts of to make it as good as they possibly could.

and yeah, Neil was dead on!

and double yeah, there was no reason for the  , just wanted to keep the  going

Beauty is in the eye-of-the-beholder.

I think the Matrix is complete cobblers. I think the Hulk is fantastic. I hate the Mummy series with a vengence! LOTR is the greatest film saga ever to grace the big screen. I'd rather watch old Stop-motion rather than CG-infested movies...

I'm sure many of you would in equal-measure would like to spit in my face or shake my hand for the above comment - but in the end its all art!

Chill, chaps & chapettes!

LOL. LOTR is a rather "CG-infested" movie

Yeah, but the CG was only one part of the LOTR films - they were also infested with beautifully-crafted real-props, sets etc. I never went to watch the films for their CG. I compared it to the Ralph Bakshi version - the story an all. They totally blew it away! And I thought alot of the animated version...

Besides - everythings CG these days...I don't think it would have got the go-ahead if the words "Stop-motion" were mentioned to the executives!

I have more respect for Ray Harryhausen than any team of whining teams of CG people...:D And Phil Tippet's work on Dragon Slayer & Robocop2 are yet to be bettered!
