I am in the midst of constructing a head, and am about to do a poly combine, merge edges, etc.

BUT, Maya will not let me do this. If i combine the two surfaces, the surfaces dissapear. If i try and seperate out the faces, or extract them, the surfaces dissapear. If i simply convert one side to subd the conversion fails. Here are the error messages:

polyUnite -ch 1 polyToSubd1 polyToSubd2;
// Warning: You have an empty result since history is on. You may want to undo the last command. //
// Result: polySurface1 polyUnite1 //

polyToSubdiv -ap 0 -ch off -aut on -maxPolyCount 1000 -maxEdgesPerVert 32 |polyToSubd1|subdTessShape2;
// Warning: Nothing is selected. Select objects or components to delete. //
// Error: Command polyToSubdiv failed. Open Script Editor for details. //

polyPerformAction polySeparate o 0;
// Warning: polySeparate works only on polygonal objects. //
// Undo: ExtractFace

and <<<here>>> (http://www.rit.edu/~eps8792/ErrorMsgs.jpg) is a screen capture. Though I'm not sure how useful that will be.

I have deleted history several times to try and get rid of this, but nothing seems to work.

The surface had, just before the problem occured, been converted to subd, and then back to poly, and the subd polygonal control cage had been deleted in the hypergraph.

So if anyone has any idea, it would be a great help. Thanks.

Just me taking a hint but, looking at the Hypergraph, the Subd Shape itīs still there.

Try like this, clear the History again, export half the Head as an .obj, close Maya, open it again, import the exported Half Head, duplicate it to the other side and try to do the merge again.

Hope it helps

That is definitely a polygonal surface with all history deleted. I am not sure why it has the lingering SubD name.

But Obj exporting worked great! Thanks a bunch.
