View Full Version : Maya Mental ray Shadow Disappearance on mesh intersection

Hi everyone!

I have a problem with my shadow on some render pass.

I'm rendering a scene where my character is casting shadow on the ground.
Everything looks fine on my masterLayer BUT on the render pass (diffuse and shadow Raw), the shadow disappears at the intersection of two objects (like the legs on the example images).

MasterLayer :

Diffuse :

Shadow :

Does anyone know where it's coming from and have a solution for this problem?

I'm using mental Ray, the light casting shadow is a directional light with raytracing. I'm on Maya 2011 (I have the same problem with 2012 as well)

Thank You !

Perhaps the objects on your model that are supposed to cast shadow in that spot do not have a *_passes type MR material? Such as mia_material_x_passes.

Isn`t it just the result of bluringn shadow?

Ha yeah, you got a point there Kakkoii.
I used the miss_fast_skin_maya. And it looks like it's only on the parts which have this shader on it that looks wrong on the shadow. So I just tried with a lambert assign on this entire character and then the shadow is ok. So it's coming from the SSS shader I'm using.

Problem solve !

Thans you both guys, you are awesome ! :D
