Introduction/Summary
Good day everyone! I am Sven, a Dutch/German 3D modeler, and I started this project to make sure to create a complete game with decent qualities. I am sorry I haven't really contributed to the forums yet but I came from blender and didn't really have the courage back then to compare my artwork with the professionals... But don't worry, I won't try to go fishing here (whatever that means), I have been in too many failing teams before to suggest yet another 'world changing epic game!' .
If you feel like you want to create a small but complete sword-and-bow-style arena based PVP game within 6 months in the UDK, this might be something for you. Please note that you'll need to be rather skilled in what you're doing because this project is meant for the semi-professionals (or close to) to show of their skills and to hopefully find a paid job afterwards.
If you are interested, two things to understand:
1) This is not guaranteed to be paid work (read: if this game sells, then we all get paid, otherwise, we are all working for free. However, if we earn something it will be shared evenly between the efforts everyone will have made.).
2) This project will use the workflow of Iteration . That means that while the team is very small you yourself are required to discuss and criticize as well as to suggest to most everything.
Project:
Team name:
Not important yet... Any suggestions appreciated ;)
Project name:
Even less important than the team name, isn't it?
Brief description:
In the game you will fight in some arenas to level up and finish quests. It is meant to focus completely on the physics (volume trigers) based fighting system which will allow the player to create his own custom skills by animating the character prior to battle and saving these animations as skills. Whenever the weapon(-volume-trigger) penetrates the enemies body(volume) there will be a kismet sequence triggered which will use speed and strength and deals damage or shatters armor accordingly.
For blocking and dodging I have though of similar complex stuff :D I hope that will keep the gameplay fun.
I hope this sounds interesting to you. if it doesn't sound good or if you see major flaws in the concept, please leave a comment, thanks!
versions: there will probably be a normal and a mature (more realistic) version
genre: action, martial
main audience:
12+
and in the mature version
18+ male
Plot: The player is a sellsword and tries his luck in the arena :D
There won't be a real story until we have created a complete and running game. If it starts to generate money we can always add one later.
Why , in my opinion, this would fit the market:
This game will be very unique and aims both at the big market as well as at a specific group of users in the mature version. This gives us a higher probability to succeed.
Technology:
Target system : PC and Iphone, potentially port to facebook via unity3D.
programming language: C++, Unreal Script
engine: UDK
Team structure:
Prop and Environment Modeler: Mohamed Amr (http://www.wix.com/mohamedosamaamr/work#!cv)
Character Modeler: Sven Hollesen (Me)
Target aim:
free for PC (maybe with a small premium shop), after that we'll try to port it to the IPhone commercially.
Compensation:
Percentage of potential revenue, unless we'll get a publisher on the way of course.
Talent needed:
3D:
1 Generalist
1 Rigger (maya, 3ds or xsi)
1 Animator (needs to use the same software as the rigger)
2D:
1 digital and concept artist
1 Scaleform artist
Coder:
1-2 coders (I don't know yet exactly what the coders will face, but I suppose it will require more than just kismet and unrealScript to hook the game up to a server)
Others:
1 Sound artist
no writer will be required
Requirements:
3D and 2D artists need decent portfolio. The generalist needs to be especially talented in modeling , texturing and internal UDK graphics/vfx.
The rigger needs to know the standard IK/FK, action drivers etc... and needs to know how to use ActorX :D
The Animator needs a showreel.
Coder: basic to intermediate knowledge of unreal scripting and Kismet, advanced knowledge in an other intermediate-level scripting language.
Sound artist: sample work if possible in other games or shorts
Website:
Will be founded if this project makes progress
Contacts:
You can contact me via email (hawkstoni@gmail.com)
For intern communications we will probably have weekly conferences.
Previous Work by Team:
/ None
(Mohamed has worked for several TV ads)
(I have worked in KungFu Kitten and several other no name games and teams)
Additional Info:
I only need people who are dedicated and can identify themselves with the theme. I don't want to sound rude but people who can't at least communicate with the other members once a week won't fit in either
Thank you for your interest! Please comment on anything and everything, even if you're not interested in joining :) Oh, and please tell me what fishing :deal: means, google won't tell me :banghead:
,Sven
WIP:

WIP:

both are still heavily WIP but I hope they can still show some kind of quality.
