Hello!

This is going to be my first FX challenge. I'm working in team with Kelly Phillips. The plan is he is going to work on rigging and animation, I will make effects and render final movie.

We would like to use MECH MARK ONE and weapons: flame thrower, missile pods and grenade launcher.

Good luck everyone!

Hi all,
My name is Kelly, I'm an animator and I will be working with Wirginia on this challenge.
We are still deciding on exact compositions of scene and a storyboard, but here is a brief over view of what we have decided on so far:

Brief proposal

This will be an entrance scene where by the robot (like gladiators) enter the areana and plays to the audience. The robot will enter the areana in partial light and with a theme tune playing through PA system. While making it way to the center of the areana the robot will periodicaly fire the flame thrower creating arcs of fire and light. Once in the centre of the ring the robot will then use the missile pod to create a spectacular display similar to a fireworks show or the controlled water fountains of Vagas.

We are expecting the total length of this scene to be around a minute.

As soon as we have a storyboard ready we will post it up.
Thanks,

It's been busy last couple of weeks. I just wanted to post links to FumeFX previews I posted on vimeo today:

http://vimeo.com/25146346
http://vimeo.com/25146534

We agreed that final sequence will contain at lest these effects: flame thrower, missile launch and explosion, and jet pack launch.

These previews are very rough low resolution pre-production simulations. I'm almost happy with flame thrower and jet pack, still working on missile explosion.

In meantime I'm doing robot UV mapping, and model simple arena environment. I will post more stuff soon.

Here is FumeFX preview of missile explosion:

I'm working on Krakatoa pass now, but I might go back and tweak FumeFX more... Have feeling that the bending trails are too long now...

Your particle effects look extremely good.

Thanks for nice words.

Here is environment I'm working on: mix old (amphitheatre) and science-fiction (towers and build in rock arches). Plan is to have sea below and mountains in background. I will add a bit more detail: more debris, more plants on top of the cliff, some pipes and vents below arena, and hopefully texture it next week.

I have posted this thread:
HEADS UP: Show us your progress\ (http://forums.cgsociety.org/showthread.php?f=139&t=988892)

Think of it as an unofficial staff meeting.

What you post can be anything.

Looking forward to it

Hi,
Been a bit busy recently so updates have been a little slow from me. Here is the draft animatic:

http://vimeo.com/26076962

I have done a test rig to check how I'm going to solve some of the mobility issues, my next step is to complete the final rig and start on the layout. :buttrock:

Cheers

I Know it's been long time, but we still working on the challenge. It's going slower than we thought because we moving oversees at the end of this month and there are million things to sort out...

Here is UV mapped and textured robot. I still would like to add more yellow paint to selected parts. I have the idea to add LED lights in stripes along selected edges in cavities, so all you will see will be light coming from LED, but not LED itself.

I'm sorry, I couldn't do it. Unfortunately new job and overseas move made difficult to do animation (Kelly's computer is still in shipment). It was great to take a part and I learned a lot. Good luck to everyone who made it this time, and I hope to have more time to do next challenge.
