hi!

ive got a little problem: ive got this layer with a white background and a few adjustment layers on it which blur parts of it.
i need to composite that over a background. multiply mode would work fine coz it makes a perfect mask as the white turns transparent. problem is that the actual image is obvioulsy going a bit darker. is there any way to counteract/avoid it getting darker?

thx a lot for any help!

Did you try the Overlay blending mode (http://help.adobe.com/en_US/aftereffects/cs/using/WSFB0FE760-71F3-4616-AE88-275D718E7125a.html)?

hey,

the result is actually worse.... is there no way to achieve the effect of multiply without the image getting darker?

well, its the nature of multiply:
if you multiply something with a value lower then 1 it becomes lower then 1. this means if you multiply something against a non white color it becomes darker

You could try maybe lowering the opacity of the multiplied layer. That way it still multiplies but it will get lighter. Or you could try to color correct the multiplied layer with curves or levels and such to brighten or darken it. Then try a new blending mode? I would experiment around with the Color Correction effects, I am sure there is a combo in there to help you out. You can always tint or tritone the multiplied image and then add saturation or a new hue. Just a matter of experimenting. Good luck!
