View Full Version : Grayscale image depth mapping
Julez4001 06-05-2002, 08:56 PM How do you use a grayscale image to set up for depth map. I want to blur base on the levels of gray of an image.

Use the greyscale image that is generated from your 3d app to create a selection. This is done in the channels. Select the best one (unless you've got an alpha that has been generated) and create a selection. Then apply a guassian blur with that selection active. If it looks wrong, undo it and invert your selection then reapply the blur. I guarantee you'll have a great looking image.
The selection (obviously) protects part of your image from being blurred thus producing the depth of field look you want.
Enjoy!
