Started modelling, i know it dosen't look alot like my concept drawings, but i had an idea in my head and wanted to jump straight into it! Maybe not the best way, but we'll see.. :)

Most of this was initally modelled using an old version of max, but we got Cinema 4d in work so im trying to get into the habit of using it. The mesh got a little screwed up in the export from max.

EDIT: Same thing happened here too

It looks like a nice start. Reminds me of two leather seats in a cockpit.

I think that's the idea, the images also post to the forum.

thanks riki!

ahhh, but i was just the images i had already posted. I must remember that in future

that's a very interesting model

you must have been inspired by the anatomy of the inner organs of the chest, right?
it surely reminds me of that

shamhead
12-11-2003, 09:39 AM
Yes!, internal organs were a huge inspiration, and im hoping to build on that. :)

Kept the textures very simple as i dont want the final image to become muddled, i like the way its currently looking and hopefully the lighting will bring it together.

Again, keeping it simple, the image is very symmetrical so ive light it accordingly, this i think will also be as far as i go in 3D land, the image will be completed in photoshop.

Wow that's amazing, I love the look and feel. My only crit is that it looks more like an object than a landscape or world.

This is actually exactly the same as my lighting image, i uploaded it again as it basically is my final render. Im just making sure i cover all the bases in case it is required.

Been workin in photoshop, will post soon!...

Ive spent quite a while in photoshop today working on my entry, i think im finally getting somewhere!

riki: Thanks! :) Hopefully the last few details that i plan to add will clear up the issue's about it being more like an object. I agree with you, i think i just need a bit of scale comparision in there ;)

What do you guys think of the way it looks at present? - Id appreciate any more crits

cheers

Great scene. I agree that it does look more like an object than a landscape... but if it is an alien world who says there is light anywhere else. The only thing I would change about it is the POV.... perhaps if it were not centered. Just a thought. Awsome job!!

I preferred the other version, this looks to much like an after thought to fit the brief. You loose to much detail in this version and the shodowy figure just cheapens it for me. I'd stay true to your original images, it's a lot more interesting.

shamhead
01-05-2004, 10:53 PM
Hmmm, my last post is just a detail of the final image which is the one above it.

This ... http://www.cgnetworks.com/challenge/entries/3/882/882_1073264657_large.jpg

...is my final image, i dont see how i lose any detail in it so i presume you think the detail i posted is my final image? The figure was also intended right from the beginning.

*confused*

okay sorry, my mistake, I just read 'Final Image' not the 'detail' bit. That does look pretty amazing, well done

that is good piece, i like your colors, how about adding some crystals on that branches you have. regardless of that this is realy nice pic.

 :applause:

Very good, but I again agree with Designer2.
Perhaps adding some additional details will make it amazing.
Best

thanks guys, and yea i think i know what you mean, i argued with myself for quite a while about adding extra details to the stems/branches and actually did attempt to embed some kind of crystaline type stones into them (which can still be seen slightly) but couldnt get the look i wanted. I could make the crystals alot bigger but then i thought it may destroy the sense of scale.

Hmmm, i dono, i might have another think about it. Thanks for the feedback :)

Anybody else agree?

TheFirstAngel

 This it the third time I look at your final render now, and I still think about your substructure.
First, Gotta say its an extraordinary, fascinating piece, with a very sacral, mystique touch, and it's rbig time cool.
The thing is if you REALLY should add something, it's a must it supports that flow.I love the mood, the shapes, the all overfeel. I think as crystals are very hard and "edgey" structures, you might try something soft and fluent. Maybe it could also be some decent lightningeffecttype of additions that runs along your veiny structure like plasma or electriciy a few sparkling particlestrings, but it would have to be very very decent, because the lightning actually is absolutely brilliant.
I'll be back if i have a better suggestion, but lets say, this already looks like a masterpiece to me and you still have 2 Weeks to go, wish I were further with my process...
Keep it up, your work big time rocks!

Thanks for the comments angel, really helped me decide... that...

im going to leave it exactly as it is :)

Really though, i made a few attempts tonight at adding details in the form of crystal's and light and plasma etc to the branches. but nothing worked to make the image any better.

Im extremely happy with the result and ive learnt alot over the course of the competition. Its great to be competiting alongside such amazing talent on this board, really makes you try that bit harder :)

eska

I was also thinking about your staff, and I believe that you are right. additional details would kill the softness of the picture, as well as make it much less unusual.
You are right.
THEREFORE - EXCELLENT result.
And don't be humble; you are one of them who most pushed this competition.
good luck:beer:

that is a pretty nice composition, shamehead. Good lightning effects and all. Might be a bit to dark though. I definitly think you should add some more elements, but thats just me ;)
Make it more of a landscape or alien facility kind of..

I came to the conclusion, that this is more than beautiful for my opinion.
This is just simply EXCELLENT, and a big achievement.
