CGTalk - creating fur

Hi guys

I am working on a project and I am really struggling with it. I have to create a Yorkshire terrier( see pic attached) and I really cant find the way to accomplish the task. Any ideas will be really helpful. BTW is such a result possible when using Softimage inbuilt hair? Or is there any other plug-in/ICE available on the market I can buy.

Any advice will be appreciated.

Hi vlad,
It's been a long time since I have used XSI ,but yes you can achieve desired result through in built fur in xsi which is the same as shave and hair in maya.

For rendering, you might also look into 3delight. Hair/fur with mental ray and its out of the box shaders is usually painfully slow.

Thanks very much guys. I also thought of not using fur, but texture maps with transparency.
