GordonPinkerton 05-13-2011, 07:24 PM Hey everyone! Just finished up my senior year at Ringling College of Art and Design, so I thought I'd post my thesis film! I had a lot of fun making it and I hope you all enjoy!

Very very impressive. You should be quite proud.

I second that. I'm a 3D major at RIT and I absolutely love this. How'd you get the soft lighting and shading, almost glowing effect?

Really enjoyed this, great work!
Love the character design of the native!

Thanks! The soft glow look on the characters that I think you're talking about is probably a combination of some renderman sub-surface scattering, color-bleeding, some careful light placement, and some compositing on top of everything :)
I was going for the kind of look you'd see in older movies such as Singing in the Rain or The Red Shoes... here's some images of theses movies that inspired me...

I was also inspired by Director of Photography Roger Deakins. I really like some of his more naturalistic approaches to lighting and heavy shadows...
