Hi all, glad to be here, really hope I have thepersistance to finish this challenge. Not too much experience in 3d so dun think have a change of winning, but it would make a hell of a excercise and fun experience! Here's my first concept, created alien chars earlier and are only for own reference, thought they suited the environment, so their not to be taken into consideration for the challenge.

Allthough I like the sketch there will be numerous more, mainly because I really didn't think before sketching.

With the next sketch I will take the guidelines more into consideration. Try and toy with physics a bit, twist graphity, upside down water? trees? floating areas. Also try and create alien materials, black water? glassy rocks? Was thinking of blue neon grass consisting of detached lil spheres, black water? Also want to add mathemetics (forms as cubes), since it's to be considered an intergalactic language. Well there's some brainstorming left for me. C&C pls

Concept sketch 2 here, used a pen here forcing myself to draw some harder lines and increase dept and textures.

Idea is an allien planet connected to an alien home planet true gigantic tubes. Transporting all sources, and turning the drained planet in a chaotic desert.

I'm really dying here for some c&c on my two concepts so I can move on more confident and with a better concept.

could one of you friendly folks pls help me out with some c&c? I'm more of a character guy, not really experienced in landscape composition. In other words, really not satisfied with my sketches, could any one pls give me some crits and tips? thnx

ok, here i go, i personally think that the idea of the worlds one being drained by the other one, is very very good! i like it, but you will have to find a better way to make that great idea more understandable for us.
right now in the concept stage u dont have to care too much about the textures, only about the ideas, try to draw with less lines- ok?
and dont forget to make an special emphasis (i cant remember if that the correct word... well i hope u can understand me) in the tubes, and that idea.

GL and lets see how a character desgner deals with an enviroment, it is really interesting

Not sure if you intend to go further with the creatures you designed, but if you take another look at the rules, you'll see that they're not expected.

Also your choice of colours in the last pic isn't the best, you should really check out some general colour theory and work along those lines.

Thnx for you comment Stefan, hehe yeah I don't really have an art backgr. let alone some color technique tricks  , I was aware however that this scene felt a bit.. ugly/grose in color use, actually came across it in a invert mode on some layers  thought felt a lil alien. But I will defenitely try a diff more smoother clor scheme, thnx

Thnx straight, yeah, allthough I ike the last sketch and idea most it does feels sorta empty, and without an emphasis like said earlier. I'm thinking about merging the 1st and the last sketch, maybe widening the canvas a bit also. Especially thinking of merging that building and hill of the 1st in the last concept, anyone liked the building and hill in the 1st? Anyways, hoping to do a lot of modeling tomorrow :applause:

Good. I like the last pic also the most. Maybe you can add green volumetric light coming from the crack in the earth. (You probably came up with the idea allready.)

And you should make the pic WIDESCREEN indeed. Gives a wider look to it. :P And by the way: I like the clouds in the last image..

Is the render going to be more... comic style (like last pic, pardon for saing it :P) or just very realistic, as far as alien landscape can be realictic...

See ya.
