Hey guys, I’m doing a series of promotion posters for a fictional movie that we’re doing as a project at school. It’s a bit of a sci-fi/fantasy movie and the posters are supposed to show some of the personality of the characters and intrigue the viewer.

All the teaser posters are going to be black and white portraits with a bit of red in them.

I’m almost done with this one, but please tell me if you have any suggestions on how to improve it:)

I intentionally exaggerated some of the features of her face; do you think it’s working alright? I’m going to do some more work on the rendering here.

This one is still pretty sketchy. I’m just working out the composition, proportions and lighting at the moment. Please tell me if anything looks off about it.

I really like the first one, I think if you worked more on the blending of the skin it would look much better, but that's just my opinion.

On the second one, her eye seems wrong. the eye itself seems like it's coming out of the eyelids. Also I don't think it's possible to turn your eye so much in that profile position. :/

The last one is still a very early work in progress so I'll just wait and see how it turns out :)

Thank you for your suggestions Talaria, they're really helpful:)

I've been working a bit more on the boy and tried making the blending on the skin cleaner. I also did some minor adjustments to his hat, ear and a few other things:

I'm going to work on the female next; I'll try to find some proper reference for her eye;)

Wow i just love the first one. was going to say the same thing about blending the skin. just a great job. well done

I haven't worked on these in a while, been a bit busy with some other school projects.

Anyway, I just worked a bit more on the guy with the scar. I've adjusted the proportions since the previous sketch and right now I'm just planning to continue rendering and try to make it look more polished.

Is there anything I should fix before I continue?

are you working off a photographic reference ?

TarickTDS: I already designed these characters before doing the posters and none of them are based on real people.

I use loads of different reference photos when working on paintings like these. I took a picture of myself in a similar lighting situation as the guy with the scar and I got different references for the hair, the angle of the face etc. -But I try to adapt them all so they fit the design I already have. I haven't been able to find a good reference for the scar yet, so I've been struggling a bit with getting it to look authentic.
