I'd love and appreciate any feedback on my lighting reel.

The software is mainly Maya/Mental Ray with Nuke and Shake.

Thanks :)

Hi Danielle. Good reel so far I think your close to have a great one! if you don't mind I would like to add some comments.

with the play ground, imo I think you should nail your material for the part you sit/stand on. Example (http://www.google.com/imgres?imgurl=http://colleenanderson.files.wordpress.com/2009/08/merrygoround1.jpg&imgrefurl=http://www.physicsforums.com/showthread.php%3Ft%3D367577&usg=__vGUP-tfw6K70hoclznoskzEBCRY=&h=315&w=430&sz=80&hl=en&start=0&sig2=S8xFAIHt6yYl9JdZaL8ozw&zoom=1&tbnid=tJw-5eEib0wFFM:&tbnh=152&tbnw=203&ei=8O_NTefPHJOqsAPFuOywCg&prev=/search%3Fq%3Dplayground%2Bmerry%2Bgo%2Bround%26hl%3Den%26sa%3DX%26biw%3D1270%26bih%3D854%26tbm%3Disch%26prmd%3Divns&itbs=1&iact=hc&vpx=782&vpy=465&dur=852&hovh=192&hovw=262&tx=170&ty=75&page=1&ndsp=20&ved=1t:429,r:13,s:0) Example 2 (http://www.google.com/imgres?imgurl=http://image.shutterstock.com/display_pic_with_logo/153391/153391,1212514930,5/stock-photo-a-playground-merry-go-round-in-the-grass-13344022.jpg&imgrefurl=http://www.shutterstock.com/pic-13344022/stock-photo-a-playground-merry-go-round-in-the-grass.html&usg=__awX5eRFtM2ejDJx1kckAE0Cc0Ak=&h=322&w=450&sz=81&hl=en&start=20&sig2=M2dwtV_zcZpvAfhcS1udvw&zoom=1&tbnid=1A74Gd779g0F4M:&tbnh=156&tbnw=208&ei=LfDNTengIZOosAOcv4W5Cw&prev=/search%3Fq%3Dplayground%2Bmerry%2Bgo%2Bround%26hl%3Den%26sa%3DX%26biw%3D1270%26bih%3D854%26tbm%3Disch0%2C769&itbs=1&iact=hc&vpx=359&vpy=434&dur=1764&hovh=190&hovw=265&tx=144&ty=153&page=2&ndsp=20&ved=1t:429,r:11,s:20&biw=1270&bih=854)start with bumping down the relfectivity, think about the metal being dulled down and dirty. Also to really get the full realism, your going to need to get that tree shadow to interact!

The car is so close to sinking in the scene, but I think you need some headlights (its your lighting reel!) and maybe some secondary wheel animation would make it look more natural.

for the pool ball I feel it needs a little more reflectivity, and the weight of the animation is a little off, the weight of a pool ball would cause it to not bounce as high.

overall try and get a animator friend to help you, and let them take that to the next level while you can focus on your shaders and realism of those aspects! great job so far

A friend of mine said the same thing about the animation when he was watching my reel. I'll definitely have to revisit it so that it isn't so distracting. The merry go round reflectivity is something that I've changed and tweaked a dozen times. lol. My reference (here (http://danielleaknight.com/mgr1.jpg) and here (http://danielleaknight.com/mgr2.jpg)) was slightly more reflective than what you suggested, but I agree that the value of my reflections are still too high. Thanks for the critique. :)
