Some of them are really nice. I love the Monkey Jumping ;-)

Some of them are unusably wobbly (e.g. the drummer, the guitar player, all the zombies) or have sliding feet.

Hi Jack,

Thanks for checking out the motions,

Keep in mind that these are just demos and I did not run the Magic smoothing algorithm on all of them.

Can you tell me which program you ran them in?

Thanks and Cheers for your feedback.

Howdy folks, Great news.

The iPiSoft (pronounced "eye pie") Software includes a jitter removal in its software for getting rid of shaky motions in bvh.

The software also has foot tracking feature that will eliminate most of the foot slip issues.

I have replaced the motions that were mentioned above with newer ones.

Download at http://tinyurl.com/20freebvhfiles

And remember if you want to download this software visit.

Hi Nildo..

In order to use BVH in Max biped you will need to use what is called an MNM marker file.

Once you load the BVH into Biped you can then use the marker file to correlate the bone names in BIPED and then once you save it in biped you will be able to apply bvh files to your biped.

There are some nice tutorials on you tube regarding this.

Let me know if you have any problems or questions...

Thanks and Cheers

P.S. I have attached the mnm file to this message, rename it a s a txt file upon download.

Scan first....!!

are you sure?
some other kinect apps appear save 3dsmax biped compatible bvh right from the file menu, so i would really expect this at some point just to be a simple : file save as: biped compatible bvh for the ipisoft app.

i don't have a kinect as yet so cannot test this myself right now with the limited demo version.

just tried to import the sample bvh's from ipisoft you linked to and you are correct in that they do not import and have wrong name errors on importing...if we have to run every single bvh thru a renaming filter/app for every take we make this is going to get a bit tedious after take 74 !!

however quoting the FAQ:

Q: What output formats are supported by iPi DMC?
A: COLLADA, BVH, SMD. Also iPi DMC can export BVH optimized for 3d Max Biped, Poser, MotionBuilder and iClone.

Hi Cress,

Im sure, (removed competing products)

iPiSoft does have the BVH Max output, But you still cant just import a bvh into Max biped without theMNM marker file. You only have to load the saved Biped once and the MNM marker lets you import without having to go through that each time.

Its not the same as ipiSoft., Did you get those confused?

Thanks and Cheers

it's okay, got your samples working now and have made a short video covering the import setup for 3dsmax.

note for people using 3dsmax some of the sample bvh's do not like you to extract footsteps and if you do so will only import frame 1...changing this back to freeform on the bvh import page will allow the motion to come in okay...just so you know.

I appreciate the warning, however, as far as I can tell this is only a rumor and no virus or trojan has actually been discovered. I think it is a little irresponsible to say that there IS a virus inside someones application until such time as that is proven to be true... right now it seems as if the evidence for such is pretty weak.

I'm sure your warning was made with the best of intentions, but... still....

Hi Cress,

I just watched and bravo.

I think all you have to do now is just save that biped then the motions will come in,

I will point you now to the Hands script on Unity, and that should be that..

Thanks again for the awesome demonstration.

P.S. Please be sure the updated and fixed FREE files, at http://tinyurl.com/20freebvhfiles

Or the same location as you downloaded last ime.

Ok,

But me and brekel had this conversation about a potential Trojan Virus.

I have indeed tracked one down from his multi installer.

and he himself said he would post a warning on his site regarding this.

Better safe than sorry, You wouldnt want to lose all your hard work now would you?

I apoligize for saying there is, But I really really do believe there is, My virus scanner told me so.

Thanks and Cheers

I agree, better safe than sorry... but still.

I've been to his site as well and as far as I can tell at the moment he has not confirmed that an actual virus or trojan has been identified. Virus / trojan scanners can often throw false positive results and just because your scanner says so... well, doesn't make it true. As a developer myself I've used packers from time to time that were 100% clean, yet would cause false positives with certain virus scanners... so they are not always accurate.

I'm not trying to be a pain, I just think one has to be very careful about starting virus rumors unless they are proven to be true.

Like I said, I'm sure your intentions are good.

Kind Regards,

J

Hi Joseph,

May I call you Joe?

Thanks for the information regarding the Viruses...

Next time I will use better judgment and use wording. such as a "Potential Virus", as not to upset anyone.

And remember folks, Always keep your firewalls on and save your work often.

(luckily I did)

Thanks again and Cheers

This is the information about Max's Hand script!

1. Create menu => Systems => Biped
2. Select the right hand bone on the biped
3. Go to the "Hierarchy" tab (looks like a little binary tree with boxes)
4. Make sure the "Pivot" button is selected
5. Click on the "Affect Pivot Only" button. You should see colored arrows shooting out of the hand bone.
6. Drag the Y axis (green circle) to -90 degrees.
7. Repeat with the left hand, but drag to +90 degrees.

And heres the other good information about Max and Bipeds for BVH files.

So... as it turns out, the process I discovered earlier doesn't necessarily work if you already have a mesh. The reason for this, as far as I can tell, is that importing BVHs in 3DS Max will scale your biped to the BVH scale. This can wreak havoc with the skinning of the mesh and cause other scaling issues.

The solution is to import the BVH, then *export* it as a BIP, which is 3DS Max's native biped motion format. Then you can reset & reimport the BIP onto your biped, and it will scale properly.

However, you will still encounter the weirdly angled hands issue if you use the motion files. After posting on Autodesk's forums, I found that the best way to deal with that is to create an animation layer, rotate the hands there, and then collapse the layer. If anyone is interested, I came up with a MAXScript to deal with that automatically:

Code:
________________________________________________________
-- Enable auto-key
set animate on

-- Select biped and create a new animation layer
select $'Bip01'
actionMan.executeAction 972555510 "40171" -- Biped: Layer - Create

-- Rotate hands out 90 degrees in the new animation layer
rHand = getNodeByName "Bip01 R Hand"
lHand = getNodeByName "Bip01 L Hand"
rotate rHand (angleaxis 90.0 [0,1,0])
rotate lHand (angleaxis -90.0 [0,1,0])

-- Collapse the animation layer, and we're ready for export!
actionMan.executeAction 972555510 "40174" -- Biped: Layer - Collapse

Thanks for the your solution mklaurence!
I just updated your script as an mcr to add it to a toolbar.

Please note that this script was edited with Max 2010 so the biped selection differs from previous versions of 3ds max.

Code:

______________________________________

macroScript Handbones
enabledIn:#("max", "viz") --pfb: 2003.12.11 added product switch
ButtonText:"Fix Handbones"
category:"Animation Tools"
internalCategory: "Animation Tools"
toolTip:"Fix Handbones - Rotated Hands "
(
-- Enable auto-key
set animate on

-- Select biped and create a new animation layer
select $'Bip001'
actionMan.executeAction 972555510 "40171" -- Biped: Layer - Create

-- Rotate hands out 90 degrees in the new animation layer
rHand = getNodeByName "Bip001 R Hand"
lHand = getNodeByName "Bip001 L Hand"
rotate rHand (angleaxis 90.0 [0,1,0])
rotate lHand (angleaxis -90.0 [0,1,0])

-- Collapse the animation layer, and we're ready for export!
actionMan.executeAction 972555510 "40174" -- Biped: Layer - Collapse
)

________________________________________

You need to run this script once before you can add it to a toolbar!

Cheers!

Hi,

I will do this, I will export some files out of the iPiSoft as Max biped and send them to you.

We will see if that works as planned..

Then if So I know that I can export my motions in 4 flavours so to speak...MAX, bvh Iclone BVH and Motion Builder BVH including Bvhacker SL bvh.

Thinking further about this, Bvhacker may have a problem with the naming of its endsites.. Which cause the hands to bend.

However, I will do whatever it takes to make good on getting reliable motion to the masses..

Cheers
