Wow almost 800 of us in this... some mighty fierce competition...
This contest will be a personal challenge since I am not one to do sci-fi but I figure it will be good to broaden horizons. I wish the best to everyone, and let's make the deadline :D
concept sketches coming soon!

Ok...
So here are my first few rough thumbnails, I am still in the process of developing my ideas. The describing paragraph that the contest gives describes a sense of awe and in thinking about it I found that I feel that way when in the mountains or when the sun or moon is setting/ rising.....
The drawings need to be cleaned up a bit and also clarified, but I felt I could post and get some feedback...
... ok well i was going to post them, but I don't know how to post them without uploading them. (i.e. I do not have a site to post them from and don't know where to get one only for pictures.) help?
thanks

Thanks _RK_
BTW sorry the image is fuzzy... I don't have access to a scanner on the weekends. Next time I update, I will have a better resolution. Color coming soon

I am thinking that the "trees" will be made out of wires and have more of a mechanical look to them while being organic in shape.

My pleasure, M'am. Can You add bigger sketches later on ? These are bit... small and thus hard to look at.

:D that'll look cool.
What's that thing in the middle (of the scene) suppossed to be?

As I further developed my idea, I found that my earlier sketches included materials (at least in my brain) that were not foreign. So I decided that the main material that this planet is made out of is kind of a liquid goo... almost like how tree sap turns into amber over time except the material never truly becomes permanently hard, but apparently hard enough to be able to hold the wire/machines that seem to "grow" out of it. At the base of the liquid solid mountains is a gas that moves as liquid; which is why it looks like it is breaking like ocean waves on the 'mountain'. In the mid foreground, I hope to place a ship of some sort to give reference to the size of the view that is seen. More to come...

These are two possibilities for the ship that will be placed in the bottom right mid foreground (if that makes any sense :) I like the bottom one the best because the top one, to me, looks more like a helmet than a ship but I am open to suggestions. I will give more of a top view of the ship and am thinking that it might be cool to show a hook of some kind stuck into the foreground to give evidence of the viewer having climbed up.

Thanks Xtronic
_RK_: having access to a scanner is a good deal these pictures are easier to see
Tadus: those things in the middle are the "trees".. this new one only has one tree...
Looking at the pictures again I decided that the middle 'mountain' needs to fit the tilt of the planet that the rest of the scene is already following. (i.e. it should be tilted a little more towards the left ... that way you could also see the moons behind it a little better) But that is something that I can do in photoshop :D
Color concept and modelling next :)

I do really like Your landscape concept- it's very... ornamental ( I hope fluidity of Your lines will work just as well in 3d) but spaceships are not so good IMHO. Nothing wrong with them but... just not so satisfying.

hey anex700 i like the concept just think you could add a little more than trees.....of course if its like some barren waste land then i guess its all good. :) Liked to see some color schemes of the environment. other than that keep up the good work.
