I wanted something that would convey movement, and maybe some confusion. I liked the colors as well...

Having just purchased painter, I'm a little fuzzy on how it all works yet.
Started playing with the impasto brushes and really liked the translucent glow effect of this structure.

I've been working with the idea of a colony in a modified Dyson Sphere, with the inhabitants long since gone when the star threw off it's mantle. All the structures are still there, asking "How may I help you?" in five quiet long forgotten alien tongues.

struck upon the idea of using fractals in the landscape, this led me to a "creation crater" for the foreground

I then took elements from the fractal design and used them in a more manageable form.

Wanted a more interesting treatment of a Dyson Sphere, something that still had a somewhat fractal look..

Carried the spine theme out to the Dyson Sphere. Like the sense of motion conveyed by the spines.

Might tweek the middleground spines a bit, to get a bit less uniform appearance, but I think I'm done (maybe).
