I'm pretty sure that my computer has some spyware on it and I'm not sure what to do about it. I know it has been running slower recently and just today the homepage was changed to some annoying pop-up trap.
-Also, I went toTechTV.com (http://www.techtv.com/callforhelp/freefile/story/0,24330,3491627,00.html) a couple of minutes ago and found these three things (but I don't know if I should download any of them or not): SpywareBlaster (http://www.javacoolsoftware.com/spywareblaster.html), Adaware (http://lavasoft.element5.com/software/adaware/), and Spybot - Search & Destroy (http://spybot.eon.net.au/).

-Can anyone help me in any way? I would greatly appreciate it.

I personally use a combination of SpywareBlaster and Adaware. I run the SpywareBlaster every couple of days to check for updates, once it's updated, you just click the Protect against all button and no more tracking software from any of those companies.

Adaware will remove any currently installed spyware and any future spyware that you may get. I run it about once a week and usually have 0 results found.

I've always found it somewhat ironic that some of the packages out there are essentially installing more spyware to erase old spyware... or rather, consolidating the old spyware to one spyware.... or ehr.... spyware to eat other spyware. =)

But yes, some out there do work.

I use the old school regcleaner (That jv16 had before they went retail), and adaware from lavasoftusa.

Both are great programs and able to clean up a wide variety of crap which is thrown on your system.

If your looking for the old regcleaner, its Regcleaner 4.3. NOT regsupreme or jv16 power tools (Those are shareware, Regcleaner 4.3 is FREEWARE).

As with any registry dealing...if you don't know what you doing...DO NOT DO IT.

Thanks for the useful feedback! I guess I'll go with the ones that TechTV listed (I'm pretty sure I could trust those one's considering...). :D

After a clean reformat, first prog I install is ZoneAlarm. Let's mee see what is trying to connect in and out of my computer. This in combination with Google toolbar (popup blocker) works great.

i use ad-aware. Seems pretty good to me. Mostly finds tracking cookies after the first pass. I think anything gator is spyware so watch out for those popups.
