View Full Version : Mud 2012 does not send blendshapes....
twosheds 04-28-2011, 08:18 AM Mudbox 2012 uses .fbx for its interchange (send to) format.
So... even with "Export layers as Blendshapes" selected in the options, it doesn't actually send any blendshapes when using "send to" for either Softimage or Maya. I don't know about 3ds max but I suspect it's the same story there too.
However, manually exporting as .fbx, does include layers as blendshapes.
Strange...

Yeah, the fbx is the latest version for all programs, and as I said, the fbx manual export works fine, Mud just doesn't include sculpt layers as blendshapes when using the "Send to" menu command.
Strangely enough the "Send to" works fine with blendshapes between both Maya and Softimage, without manually exporting as fbx, so I guess it's just broken in Mudbox or never was included as part of the "send to" thingy.
Unless maybe Mud 2012 is using a different version of the fbx plugin for it's "Send To" than it does for a manual fbx export. Is that even possible?
EDIT:
On the positive side, manually exporting fbx files works beautifully with blendshapes, so this isn't a huge problem, just a minor inconvenience. :)

twosheds,
Actually, there is a separate set of preferences for the "Send To..." operations. (It was done this way to keep the new "send to" stuff somewhat independent of FBX options)
If you go into File->Send to Maya->Preferences... there should be an option to send sculpt layers as blendshapes. If your blendshapes still aren't getting transferred even after that option is checked, please do log a bug under Help > Report a problem...

Ahhh... damn... yeah that little arrow that indicates there might be something else in the menu. Gets me every time. :D
Thanks Stephen, that works perfectly. :)
