I have some sort of a weird problem. For example, when I customize my IE (Disable links, disable search toolbar etc...) and restart it, it goes back to old layout.:annoyed:

And also, I recently bought 2 sticks of ram 512mb. And I already had 228, but my pc says it only has 500mb:hmm: Is he going nuts?

And yet, I got me a 180gb hard drive but it only reads as 20gb. I got everything corect, including slave master ect, instaled it, updated bios, even tried to make my computer to recognize the hard drive by manually inputing the data in the bios (by the instructions of hard drive) and still nothing.

Thanks for your time

Dan.

and btw, have u considered flashing the BIOS? Some older BIOS's need a flash update to update them to support hard drives larger than 80GB (or was it some other number?) And if nothing else, try replacing the CMOS battery... when that thing dies, all sorts of funny and strange and unusual and irritating things may start to happen.

1. what operating system?

2. flash the B.I.O.S

3. what file system? with a large hard drive you need NTFS.

if you are using anything older than 2k this could be your problem.

"slave master ect"

blank all your hard drives and do a clean install of windows 2k with the NTFS file format.

also what motherboard u got?

It certainly sounds like a problem of an older motherboard. Does the mobo support over a gig of RAM? Does the mobo support large drives? I seem to remember that some won't properly use anything over 128 gigs.

1) What motherboard are you using?
(Model # ex. Asus A7M266-D)

2) If you don't know, what type of computer is it? Is it a dell? Whats your service tag #?

Hardware is not universally compatible. The existing hardware must be able to make use of the level of upgrades your trying to implement in it.

Older motherboards....

a) Are usually very picky about ram sizes and speeds.
b) Are generally limited by the 120 GB limit, unless their more then a few years old, or extremely new.

Windows also has a 48-bit LBA size limitation that must be bypassed as well. (180 GB is both a software and hardware limitation).

fat 32 wont do at all. it wouldnt go that high i though. anyway ntfs will give you greater security and great capacity. i would reformat. as for the flash your bios well hummm. i dont know fo sure but i would run a google serch on your model and add flash bios or something like that to the subject.

-zek sorry im not too helpful

i say ntfs because. there is a limit to the size of hard disk the fat32 format can accept. simlary with software because win xp can only handle 2 gb of ram. any Os older than win 2k doesn't suport ntfs.

when ypu update your hardware its advised to clean the drives and re-install windows.

i wouldn't attempt to flash your B.I.O.S if you don't know how, take it to a local computer shop. if you mess it up ie your computer re-boots midway it can destroy your motherboard. gigabyte motherboards come with a dual bios, this is handy.

your motherboard only support pc2700, pc2100 ram so if you got anything faster that could be your problem.

most likely to be a bad stick of ram with your ram problem.

the hard drive problem is because you are using fat 32 instead of ntfs it because its huge and fat 32 is an out dated file system.

kinda sloppy post but its late.

regards

edit: don't do a google search check the manufacturers website for flashing your bios. although i don't think its needed.

i reccomend re-installing windows. while your installing windows delete the partition and re-format to ntfs.
