For the second time now (two different works) my submission to the CGTalk Gallery has been declined. The e-mail sent to me only says that "this work does not yet meet our standards as a completed piece for the Showcase Gallery".

I really don't understand that. I've seen works far more simple than the ones I tried to submit making it to the showdace gallery. My intention was just to get some feedback from the other artists at the forum, so I can improve my work.

You can see the images below. They are both full CG and original. Is it's quality really that poor??

I think it would be more constructive (for you) to post this in the focused critique section, there's usually pretty good feedback in there.

Not sure if you're looking forward to read the reasons of the rejections straight from leigh or those in charge to accept or reject, or if you're looking for others guys feedback. If it's the second I have a few points I would have no problem to mention.

It's late and I don't have the time nor energy to write anything more than this:
- You were aiming for realism, and didn't reach it. Neither image is realistic.
- Neither image is interesting. You've simply placed the objects in the middle of the camera FOV and hit render. You've not put any thought into composition beyond that. Take a look at some photography websites to see how to create compelling images.

I think this thread pretty well sums up my thought towards the cg gallery submission process:

BTW: I've never had anything rejected, so I'm not bitter, im just interested in the standards being a little more balanced.

That's precisely what the WIP forums are for. Feel free to use them :)

As I understand artist did finish his images , maybe he did not reach realism level you would like but it's finished. I thought WIP stands for Work In Progress !
There is not a single image in the showcase gallery that has no room for improvement.
I sure artist invested more than 20 hours on this work and it would be fair to take at least minute to write brief explanation regarding why his work is rejected.

Since working in 3D I posted my work to the gallery but got some of it rejected with the same comment, I really have to say that I see far more poorer work in the gallerys every day and that is good so -why? because the community will regulate the level of quallity in form of viewings and comments. When someone post his artwork to the gallery it is up to the community to tell him if his work needs improvement. In my oppinion a strong community does not need moderation when something is offending you can still inform the administartors. Selecting artwork by quality in advance is a form of censoreship.

Here is image that has recently passed tin to showcase gallery.
I sincerely apologize to artist for taking him as example and i think he did a great job.
Question is what's the quality difference between this artwork and one you have rejected ?
