View Full Version : Which laptop to choose?
DaForce 10-24-2003, 12:59 AM My dad is after a laptop, and he will be getting it thru his work, and they get good deals with Dell. So he was looking at the Dell laptops, the 2 are InspironTM 5150 & InspironTM 8600 , he basically wants the best one.
http://www1.ap.dell.com/content/products/compare.aspx?c=au&id=inspn_au&l=en&s=dhs
I told him that the 8600 was the better of the 2 as it is using the new centrino CPU and its also widescreen (is the 8600 the M60??)
Anyway, he will be using it mainly for Internet based stuff, accounting, word processing the usual stuff. And occasaionally i might use it for the odd game if we travel.
What are your thoughts on what he should get? I realise he could settle with something less powerfull and cheaper but he wants to get the best thats out now.

i constantly find myself drooling over the fujitsu lifebook n series... my next choice for sure.
when i was deployed i went through 3 dells in 5 months. never gonna buy a dell laptop, but i might (might!) take a free one.
best bet if you have a specific one you're looking at, go to www.cnet.com or www.epinions.com or possible a uk website called whatlaptop i think.
now, back to the fujitsu n series

I use one of those Dell's on a daily basis and here's my complaints:
The touchpad is bad. Unusable in my opinion.
The keyboard is very flimsy. In fact, the whole thing seems a bit shaky to me.
It's a good computer, despite those two gripes. The m series is "tougher" in my opinion.

fujitsu huh, i will get him to have a look at those. But i think he is keen for the Dells as he gets decent discount.
lowdown:
I had the chance to play with an 8500 today, doesnt seem to bad at all. I think i will point him towards the better "M" series.

have him try www.fujitsupc.com and look around.
i hate hate hate dell. but i have to admit, their pda's seem to have a nice price. i catch myself looking at them sometimes, but it's sort of like "fool me once, shame on you... fool me twice, shame on me." i know some people have good things to say about dell. but try www.cnet.com for some great reviews.
now gimme that fujitsu n series
