View Full Version : Optical mice question...

My trackball mouse had four smooth pieces of plastic tape stuck to the bottom of it. They were used to make the mouse glide around smoothly (all trackball mice come with by default.)
Well, when you're working in Maya and Photoshop all day everyday those smooth stickys slowly begin to erode and disappear.
Once that happens the mouse no longer glides smoothly and it's a pain in the arse to work with (it's nearly impossible to do CG without those stickys on the bottom of the mouse). I have to struggle to get the mouse to move around the screen.

Do optical mice have those sticky's on the bottom? If not I'll go out and buy one immediately.

btw-are optical mice as accurate as trackball mice?

I find that optical mice are more accurate than the ones with the ball. Are you using a mouse pad?

All mice that I have ever encountered have the little glider pads on the bottom, even the one that works on the Wacoms have them.

If you mouse a lot I would strongly recomend getting a tablet. You can use the pen as a mouse and it is much easier on your hands.

Grab the Icemat at the bottom and a nice optical mouse. The mat is luvely. It also comes with a strip of sticky teflon which will glide like an air hockey table and won't wear through.

imashination - I'll second that!
I got the Icemat and the IntelliMouse Explorer 3 for about £30? Don't know if I saved much but I got it from www.scan.co.uk
It's a little on the noisy side to begin with but I don't notice that anymore plus it's rediculously smooth with the little teflon pads!
