Although I ve made some previous artwork post in CGTalk before, I decided to take part on this contest cause I liked the challenge's subject.

So, here is the main idea. This is Mnemonia, an organic world somewhere in another solar system, a place where nothinf seems to be like we use to know... Organic forms that look so unreal to be true...a microcosm in enlargement? looks so lonely......but so scary too... Life? who knows....Maybe not. But at the same time maybe life is everywhere...

You ll wait till the end of this contest to find out if this place has something to tell you in real.

Till then....take a look at the main concept idea I ve made for you....

Looks great, fits the brief well. The skies look a bit stretched, but I like the colour range.

Xtronik
10-24-2003, 12:42 AM
Yeap.....I actually streched them to fit em together....

The other chance I have to do is propably to reverse it horizontaly caause -with the concept draw i need the light to come up from the other site.... I think..

I really like the feel of this.
you should figure out where the bottom of the structures are goin. right now it is a bitt fuzzy. I can't tell if it's water or clouds.

Xtronik
10-24-2003, 11:03 PM
Its compliment to have your opinion KOryH too..

Actually.....I m thinking of make it looks like steam.......I think it will looks more like this when I ll add some details in those organic structures... details that are going to "fade out" as they will go deeper in the fog...

Thanx again KOryH

Looking really great so far. The mist and the distant structures really give the place that... um... something feel. And I mean that in a good way. I think someone said desolate. I'll go with that. Keep 'em coming, and I'll keep being impressed.

KOryH
10-28-2003, 06:09 PM
I am really liking this one. your last update brought out so much detail.
I would start thinking about what you coulddo to bring out the forground to make those things look like the scale you want them to be. maybe one more structure in the middle ground. between the foreground peices and the one with the most detail. try pushing the verticals a bit more too.

keep up the great work

Xtronik
10-28-2003, 07:32 PM
Nice to see you again KOryH.
Your critic is always welcome...

Well, adding elements in the background, is always a bit meshy job....the good part is that adding these gorms......still new ideas come up for the background..... I also have in my mind the "BIG SURPRISE" for the end.... that has not necessery come up in the foreground....

I need a layer more.. u re right.....but this will not be so noisy as the background ones.....

Thanx again KOryH
Keep on doing great job too....

I dont know how i have missed this thread for so long. Beautiful work Xtronik! Everything seems to just work perfectly together. I think that there is need for more detail in the foreground and some sort of midground layer....but im sure you know that:thumbsup:

That's Amazing work Xtronik,

I think doing that sketch with all its details on Maya or whatever package you use would have extremely striking glamor, waiting for more...
by the way how about adding some ropes (only suggestion),

good luck,

Xtronik

Thanx Designer... :)

suggestions are always welcome!
Ropes is in my plans.... (can check back on fast drawing sketch)

about the detail......I now I m gonna have a hard time texturing in 3D.... but till then I got to make some tests either with UVs, projection mapping either with displacment maps....

Till then.....

KOryH
10-29-2003, 11:19 PM
Mmmmmmm tastey.
me likes.

it's great, the only thing I would say is that it's getting a little monochomatic, or atleast the pallete is very limited. you might try looking for an excuse to get some bounce light and some cooler complimentary colors in there

Xtronik
10-29-2003, 11:27 PM
It will be my friend KOryH....Foreground is upcoming roo...

Thanx again for ur critic.....Always welcome

Wow, nice concept you've got there, Xtronik. What are those little bulbs embedded in the "squigglies"?

BTW, can't wait to see the 3D version.

peace,

Lu

mv
10-30-2003, 12:38 AM
oh nice!!
that ended up really great. I agree that complementary colors here and there wouldn't hurt. I'd see some tiny blue glowworm-thingies on the "branches".

Xtronik
10-30-2003, 12:39 AM
Thanx ntmonkey....
this little bulbs around the place....is something that i m thinking to put it in lige actually....javing a little "breath-in-breath-out" or self-illuminance.....also i ve put themn for practical reaseon that you ll understand in the end..... no more words about it for now..

Chris

Ian Jones
10-30-2003, 12:40 AM
Nice concept. The shapes and colours are really alien, good work.

One thing that bothers me though, is that they all seem to be on the same 'plane' there is no depth to the structures, they are just like a flat cut-out atm... I'm guessing your 3d version will probably rectify this. It would be great if they grew backwards aswell.

Keep up the great work!

Xtronik
10-30-2003, 01:04 AM
To m@: (referenced to KOryH)

Thanx once again for your attention to my progress. Well Actually It is my choice to use a warm pallete avoiding to use cold complementary colors and become colorful.... Prefered keep up the tones of sunset sky playing with different contrasts and depth of color of similar palletes...

to Ian Jones :

Ian your comment was absuletely right...
Working on different layers each time...had the ability to mix em up together for a better feeling.... I ll try 2 fix that but for sure.....this will not exist in the final image

Thanx both of you guys...

With respect
Chris

Unwrapping UVW is some timetaking and carfully to be planed work, and time is about to set a bit of pressure now... :D I normally already apply uvw's on bottom of the modifierstack as it's simple to apply (when polymodeling, instead of extrude just cut and pull out to not destroy the uvw index) so I already have finnished uvws when i finished modeling and can just use texporter to get my paintcanvas... You did it again! Responded straight after my post haha, that's all because my rendertimes are forcing me to watch the goodies come! Can't wait to see more eyecandy of u! Keep it up man, this was one of my favourite threads from the beginning! Keep on rockin'!:buttrock:

You have a little stretching up there, but all in all it seems to be seemless, and if I have it right in my memory, this will anyways be a dark area, so no neet to fix it urgently. Heep it up so will I :buttrock: Rock da house Chris!

Very cool texture.... So I'm looking at it for a while...

OMG! Suddenly I feel like Bowman in '2001', but instead of screaming
- "Oh my god, it's full of stars"
I find myself saying
- "OMG, it's full of little... there's like FACES in that blown-up integalactic insides of some alien liver!!!"

Uber-cool.

Yuppy,
I am the first to say it's really good,
and not at all making me afraid.
It's beautiful, and going very well.
Now, that you are almost at the end,
put all your creativity together, and blow us away.

Looks excellent, Chris!

I realized one thing that might be worth mentioning - it's like there is an overly layered feeling here somehow, all those structures seem to run in distinct "trains" parallel to the camera plane... I humbly wish to suggest something going into and out from the image (along z-depth) as well, instead of only left-to-right if you follow me... But that's just a minor suggestion...

That aside - Rock on, it's going great! :buttrock: [it's been a while since I used a buttrocker]

Yeap.....seems so flat now......but it will be greater when I ll add zbuffer layer on composition

Thanx Eska! .... Actually its an allien's-humaid face....
I had this concept from the begining..... cause I had to avoif the presence of a real irganism itself....

so I figure it out that it would be a nice idea if I could mesh the figure of an allien face in a strange organic landscape ...

Glad you liked it.....;)

thanx again!

Well....Ill be a bit honest here by saying that I expected a litle bit more for the final version of this image. I just dont feel that this image does your concept piece justice. Dont get me wrong....you are extremely tallented, but I still feel that your final image just doesnt have the "awww" factor that your concept posessed. I think that this comes from the overall lack of detail. However, I understand that you really pushed hard at the end and maybe time just wasnt on your side for this project.
Anyway...you do some great work and I cant wait to see more of it in the future!

Thanx Eska

This challence became a place where creativity of all people was a real exciting experience. Not only for presenting atwork from the first production steps - till the final proccess, but also according to the point of view that each one saw this allienware subject .

That was for me the real challence.

I am still a fan of expressing with my artwork first of all me -and the pass these things to someone that looks my art. That's for me the ideal success.

Hope to did it that in here

But for sure I enjoyed it and also liked you people that I met in here .
We all are winners finally.

Xtronik
01-22-2004, 08:42 AM
lol ... Yeap... that was the idea
Unfortunately If i had the time advantage I wanted to post it earlier witout reveal anything .....let you people fing it out till the end ....

The idea was to make this allienware land "organic" and "alive" itself.... you see something that supposed look like having something of life but the main figures take form and become alive when you look at them from a different point of view.

As you understood.......I was quite fan before ages of paranoicritic method of Da vinci and Dali
