CGTalk - Rhino duplicate surfaces

I have some bad IGES data in rhino. The bulk of the the model has duplicate surfaces on top of one another. I can't seperate this data even with the select duplicates button.
I have tried changing the joining tollerances etc but without joy. I dont really want to go through manually selecting 10000 surfaces individually. Any ideas????
