Yeah, Steven, I bought this one at Game Developer's Conference. I like it a lot. It's a great springboard for learning more advanced rigging techniques and Jason really made me think well beyond what I learned about rigging in school (practically nothing).

I've heard some complaints about A|W's marketing of the video claiming they don't follow through with the muscle system. I agree they should remove that from their promotion of the DVD, but people should really just get over it. Maya doesn't have a stock muscle system and what do you expect Jason to do, talk about Weta's muscle system so we can get exposed to a tool that most will never see?
What Jason and his lecture notes covers is enough for those interested to dig deeper by practicing his techniques and making up your own. The scripts he provides are nice tools, too. I've modified most of the scripts that come with the DVD, which should be proof enough that I learned enough about rigging to know what needed to be added or changed about Jason's scripts.

If you're into rigging, get it. If you're into animation and are hate rigging but are forced to do your own, get it. If you model static images and never need to move them. Buy an X-Box instead.

Hope that helps.

LOL :D

Thanks for the info man , that was a quite helpful overview , because you never know what you are getting from the alias wavefront store until you get it in the mail and try it , but than its too late. I am glad to hear the rigging dvd is good , i was thinking about ordering it too.

Thx all~~
about the muscle system in DVD,do the system simulate the real human muscle?
last AWUG metting in Hongkong,Weta digital had a talk, they intro their muscle system and compare with human movement.so cool~~~ cant find any different between cg Char and real man.
last i have a funny question:
when i learned all of this DVD,can i make a musle system like Hollow Man or The lord of the ring?........

No, Stephen, there isn't any muscle system description at all on this DVD. It goes into flexible spine setup, anatomically correct (or close to it) forearm rotation, pipeline setup and everything that they describe on the DVD web page. I noticed on the web page they don't say anything about the muscle system anymore (I read it fast, so maybe they do) which is good.

So, you can try to create your own muscle system via deformers, scaleable joints, and influence objects, but that is beyond the scope of this DVD. If you can make it to SIGGRAPH this year, maybe you can see Jason's next Master Class, although I don't know what the topic will be.

Again.....no muscle system on the DVD.

Looks like I'll be doing some shopping at the AW store soon. Thanks for the insight AC. You can never have enough learning material. http://www.cydonian.com/forum/yabbimages/grin.gif
