My reference drawing looked ok but after modeling I was unhappy. Should i downright exaggerate proportions more if i'm going to do a stylized 3d character ? I do when i'm drawing characters a bit but not a lot.

I come from an illustration background. I'm used to results with a pencil i guess. I've gotten really used to maya interface, but i don't know why i cant model something alive looking in maya. I've seen 3d characters that worked, i know its possible. As of right now though mine look unnatural, the proportions feel wrong even though they're okay.

I'm apologize for the vague question, any suggestions are greatly appreciated. :)

If your refrence drawing is drawn with correct perspective and rendering, it should work in 3D.
However, sometimes stylized characters that are drawn without perspective ect. don`t work in 3d, then you`ll need to change the desing.
