Title: chinese ship
Name: ray wang
Country: China
Software: Photoshop

I always intend to paint a concept of ship. I tried many kinds of idea, but nothing I want. Until last month, a turret boat parking in the lake catches my attention when I am going for an outing with my friend, then I came back home and drew it immediately.
In ancient time in china, at the beginning the turret ship is treated as powerful battleship and controlled by chief commander.
However I prefer the feeling of peace rather than war. Then I depict a ancient merchant ship which is ran aground in the canyon.

Hope you like it

I'm in love with the lighting, it seems minimal yet creates an atmosphere of sadness for the ship run aground.

This is a good question. I think everyone has different way and experience of applying brush strokes. I just share what I know from my own experience. Hope it useful to you!

I use the brush to dispose the details of the shading in the picture. Because the shading is not completely dark, it still has some details (albeit slightly blurred compared to lighter parts), yet if you depict a lot of details in the shade, your shade tends to jump out of the picture, so the right brush is very useful here. You can use it easily to add the symbolistic details, you just let it looks like something that you want.
For example, the following picture

http://img836.imageshack.us/img836/9904/4395631302003407medium.jpg
You can see the shade of picture. Actually, I also cannot say what is detailed meaning of the brush? I just know it looks like some ancient rattans or Moisture streaks or rocky textures.
Anyway, brush study is a process of discovering, you need to constantly try and understand it through trial and error.
By the way, I included an attachment of the brush that I used, you can try it~

Guy standing there is getting his mana, to recover ship?

I love those lights, and mystery of place, nice idea, to
put a ship in a cave, makes us ask ourselves questions why,
and how this is what I like.

Hehe, that guy is just as a scale that make us know how big the space is. Of course you can also say his is a explorer or a ancient prophet who was reviving the mysterious Ark.

Btw, what is the mana? is it from the name of game?

ElviraArkanov
10-31-2012, 11:05 AM
Mana is magical energy wizards use in fantasy, to perform their magic ;)
With two words, nothing real.

If you would have to tell, what part of china is this place?
