I don't know if Bunk has a gallery of his work, but he's the one who modeled Otto and Meg, and the one who did the Meissie tutorials on Maxon's site. The best organic modeler I know of working in Cinema.

or is it a purist thing?

Plugins are permitted. One of the main ideas behind the contest is to show what a creative mind using the Cinema suite of tools can do, and plugins developed specifically for Cinema are thus allowed.

you know...its not the fact that squid entered that makes us all screwed...its the fact that he put a background in it, instead of just rendering an alpha...now were all totally owned :D

Ya agreed :)

My setup - 400mhz Imac,512m 15 inch monitor - using XL7

I tried some area shadow and some better lighting but had to give it away at 17 hours render time and it was slowing even more,so thats the best I could come up with.I have a G5 arriving and 4g ram and 2 x LCDs,XL8 and BP2 soon so that will make a biiiig difference

Even though I knew I was not going to place with that image, the modelling experience was great for learning new tricks and things,as I dont usually do bio mech etc.

In the end that may actually be of much more value than prizes Stu, and if it makes you feel any better I personally found your entry to be quite good, even more so after reading your set up. Quite liked Slouchcorp's idea as well.

Cheers.

Cheers bud

Its more frustration then anything as I have to render region in small areas to see what am I doing and check lights and mats as my graphics card does not have enough power to properly update everything in the viewer window :D

Yeah I can relate to that, you will find that the G5 is an improvement in that respect though. It can still take an age to render area shadows though.

Cheers.

Not yet, but I doubt my results will be much different from the others, I can at least say that I am happy with the machine, it's a big boost over my silver fast model, and what I am really loving is that it's actually rather quiet.

Heh anyone else have this problem? My image is basically done - could probably use a finishing touch here and there - but it's just hard to say when "it's done" and when I should just "leave it alone"...

Good contest though.

Yes, Squid's entry is typically amazing but I wouldn't be discouraged (anyone). Ultimately, these contests for me are just learning experiences. Even if I don't win, I'm inevitably pushed to learn something or try something new which in my mind, makes me a winner too (even if it isn't one of the prizes I'm winning). I'm away from my "working computer" at the moment but when I get home, I can't wait to start tweaking my entry. Talented users always give me inspiration and the drive to better my skills.

Ok, enough sappy comentary.

Juste, je suis parfaitement d'accord !

Your right 3D-S, agree with you. That's the same for me. Like challenges I try to make all challenge that I can (and often challenge got no prize), but every time I still front a "problem" that I never face before... sometimes made something different is really good because we learn something new, ever...

I don't think anyone would accuse you of plagiarism but even if you're unsure I suggest uploading the image anyway. It will be pending until either audity or myself approves it so we will have some time to figure out what, if anything, needs to be done :)
