Hello-

a bit off topic, but i dont know where else to take it. I just ordered a dvd online, popped it into Windows 2000 sp4, and nothing. Windows doesnt even recognize the presence of a disc, asking me to "Please insert a disc into drive F:" each time i try to access it...

any ideas?

makes me think i should upgrade to XP - is it worth it though? Is XP a good operating system, especially for 3d applications? like i said, im running on 2000 sp4. I also think the upgrade will fix my dvd problem (the dvd runs FINE on my roomies computer, running XP). Any help?

By the way, XP home and XP Professional - whats the diff???

Don't know why it wouldn't read the disc in win2k, have you tried installing PowerDVD or a different DVD player besides the windows media player? Even if you have, it still should let you open the disk from My Computer and view the contents. I'd also check for mobo updates for your mobo, chipset updates etc. Win2k really isn't geared for Multimedia stuff, more for workstation apps/office apps.

The main difference between WinXP Pro and WinXP home edition is that WinXP Pro supports dual processor systems, home does not. That's basically the only difference that you should worry about, and I'd definitely go with Pro if you ever plan on upgrading to a dual system, if not, go with home as it's a bit cheaper.

Good luck,

Emmortal

thanks for the tip on the XP pro and XP home - I'm running a dual processor system so i'd most likely want to upgrade to XP pro

still doesnt solve my dvd problem. Lastes bios drivers on the dvd drive, mobo, and windows. but the problem isnt my player - windows doesnt even know a dvd is in the drive. i cant even access the contents. I know the medium is still a bit fidgety, but it should at least be able to see the disc.

the dvd itself reads fine in standard dvd players, on macs, and on my roommates XP system. I really want to get this runnin on my cmoputer - i have no clue what to do. anyone else!? THanks!
