---

Hey everyone! Participating 2nd time (didn't finish at the first one), I'm hoping to make it this time.
I'm not sure that any better concept hits my head later but probably I'll stick with this one just not to waste time for the concept (cause I'm here to beat myself B) ), I just want to finish a work for this challenge.

My god's name is God of Vengeance. I think I'll go with the human form. Well, some background.. He is a punished, tortured god with open wounds that always bleed. He is immortal of course, but he feels all the pain etc. And I'll built on this.

Soo, first sketch:

I'll check all your entries right after my concept is complete. I don't want to confuse myself with your great concepts :)

Well, good luck to all!

Cool design, but I do think you could push it a bit further!
Waiting for updates! :)

Well I must say nice chose of god, but you need to push it little bit more, because right now it looks more like warrior than god. You now what nice idea would be if you add like a dozen swords stuck on his back, it is just idea. Ok, keep it up !

Hey Ersin,

Nice cocncept and sketch. Agree with others about to push the idea. Perhaps you need to put a more traitor look and cold attitude, mnor vengeful look :) Only a comment

Good luck and waiting for updates. Cheers!!

Thanks for the suggestions! I'm planning to do what you mentioned. Lots of weapons (arrows, swords, spears etc) stuck in his body. Also I'll add chains around his body, maybe tattoos or tattoo-like scars (or wounds).

another rough sketch and face-expression detail:

very cool approaches so far ersinerturk. Love to see how this char develops.

A quick reference group to keep the creative drive runnin' is to revisit through the previous comp. constantly to see what makes the insanity of the past-champions so off the chart. That should give you a idea of how unlimited and free things can be. let that imagination pony run wild! ^_-

@PuiArt: Thanks Pui! It would be great to add more extraordinary elements to the concept but I feel it wouldn't make sense. Well, he has to be partially naked to show wounds and bleeding. He has to have a face to show the rage expression. And he has to be able to move quickly to react. Other than that I can improve him on these. Things just came to my mind are, 4 or 6 arms (one missing again), 3 heads (with three different expressions as raged, betrayed, and weary), more armor etc. I must say I'm not happy with the human form either but I'll try to push the limits of this concept. Thanks again!

Still trying to clarify the character and features. I think my God of Vengeance could be the fallen God of Justice before he was betrayed and tortured. Everything he had about justice got corrupted. So he's using the two pieces of the scales(right word?) of justice as weapons. Maybe a ripped or burned book of justice somewhere? Also I'll keep some previous features (chains; swords and arrows stuck on his back, bleeding wounds).

Not complete but here's what I've got so far:

Thanks! Working on lights and darks. Probably his gonna be a dark skinned (means vengeance) god wearing a white armor (means justice).

Nice start, I quite like his armour and his accessories. Must say I do like the pose in #5 best, like he's shouting down at the little people. Maybe you could incorporate that pose into your current image, to add dynamism.

Thanks! I agree that it needs more dynamism. I think this one's better.

I have to agree with Baron, the pose is static and the other one that you drew with the god shouting downward is more pleasing. But I do prefer this one's armor and armaments. Putting the god on a tilt definitely helps make the composition as a whole a little more dynamic on this one, but he definitely doesn't seem to be doing much because there is little action in the gesture.

@DeathMetalDan:Thanks, at this point it's hard for me to work on another pose but I'll try to add some hanging chains or a ripped cape to give it more action. I hope that works.

Update: The more I look at it, I hate it more :/ But I'll finish it.

I don't like how you sharply defined the muscles on this new update.
I recently learned myself that it is an amateur move to do.

The reason being is that it really stiffens out the body and the result has no dynamicism and has a big "noob" factor. I think the key is to be subtle with your value changes and also think of your lighting. Base your muscle value contrast on your lighting system.

From what I see here, there isn't much of a lighting, and his entire body looks similar in value. I would suggest to select all the skin and brighten it as well as lower the contrast!

PavelSokov

And also I would like to say that I feel as though your concept devolved a lot. While I really like the chain action and the giant sword on the back, I think it all went downhill after the pose where he was one armed and shouting downwards.

That was a good pose, and the one arm design was really interesting. The contact bleeding is a cool idea as well! I enjoyed the Greek tones he had, and that really gave him a "godly" legitimacy.

Anyways that is just my opinion, and all it is. If I were you I would paint in the shouting pose, and have him shouting from the top of a mountain or cliff or something.
But it's up to you!

ersinerturk

Thanks a lot Pavel! Those are really good points you mentioned. You're probably right about muscles. The skin must be in a dark tone to show the contrast of his former values as the god of justice and new values as the god of vengeance (white armor vs black skin; or just light vs dark). But I'll work on the tones, try to make it more natural.

About one arm issue: This was one of the things what I wanted to keep, but giving him the two broken pieces of scales as weapons seemed better than that, I might be wrong. Also it makes the connection to his "justice" side.

I'll keep the chains and I can make him shouting in this pose. But it's really hard to start another pose for me now. I just want to finish this one.

Thanks a lot for your critique!

Hello
I understand you, it is hard to throw out all the work and start again. But sometimes it is easier than try to save a image that doesn't work and spend in it more and more hours.
Anyway I think you could fix it with an anatomic revision of muscles and a little adjustement in the pose.
Hope it will help you. Keep on working.
See you.

Thank you David! I hope I can do that :)

Well I don't think it would be hard to use the old pose at all.
Just take the old pose of him, and copy paste it on top of your current background.

I don't like the scales because I didn't event understand they were scales. It's still hard to believe.

Anyways, it's all just my opinion but I think there would be a giant imporevent from painting over the old pose. Shouldn't take long, use the same background

Cool progress so far. Like a lot the atmosphere of destruction in your image :D The tank in the foreground is a nice touch and puts a cool perspective and size reference in your concept.

Im agree wit Pavel. The scales idea is not bad, but is difficult to understand for the first view. Maybe you can change the right scale for a whip and the left scale for chain wit a spiked ball or a sword. Silly ideas , dont listen to me :)

Good work and waiting for more updates.

this is a good design you just need to work on it some more to make it better. Looking good so far can't wait to see more take care for now.

You're going to hate this but I agree with Pavel. It's getting better but the one arm pose is way better and even if you can't face going back to an old drawing I'd still rip his lower arm off. If he's after Vengeance it makes sense that he wants to deal out some pain because his arms been ripped off! As far as lighting goes, your anatomy work is great, so I'd introduce a secondary light source perhaps from below - that'll help define the character more and add some dynamism. Good luck - (I hate going back over stuff that's taken me ages!) :banghead:

can see the improvement so far, i think the details in your initial black and white concept is more interesting ( posted 24/4 ), should bring back the foreground object and some building in the background, keep it up and good luck.

Thanks guys!

@Ferx: Thanks! Agreed, I'll change them into a more "flail" looking weapon :)
@ShogunWarrior: Thanks a lot! I'm working on it :)
@budley: Thank you! I wanted to keep both of the arms since the "scales" idea seemed cooler but apparently it's not. So now I can turn back to the "one arm" concept and give him another flail-like weapon instead :)
@DerrickSong: Thanks! The tank's still there, I just hide it when I work on background. Also working on buildings in the bg and people around the ruins. :)

Now he looks like he's pis*ed! Bad enough to deal out some pain. Yeah. Liking that arm a lot now. I reckon a little more texture in the armour would be great - have a look at Kekai Kotaki's work for that, he's awesome at it and it always has a really weathered, organic look to it.

Keep it up, Ersin! Will be checking in again real soon...
