I never know if I should post my stuff in the "Focused" section or in the "Finished Work 3D" section... I see that this forum has more hits, so maybe I´ll get more feedback if I post it here. Anyway, my latest animation Nipples for Men! (http://www.david-walden.com) is finally finished and ready to be critiqued. Just click on the img on my homepage (and let me know if that doesn´t work).

cheers-

haha! I didn't expect that character to turn up here! Wow what a nightmare that was. Billy showing up on cgtalk... Or is that what you know him by too? (maybe I should write this whole critique in swedish or norwegian?).

anyway, your hand gestures are great especially towards the end, really like them.
What you could improve is the general movement of him in the beginning, you are moving him forward way to smooth. He should stop just slightly after he's put down each foot.
The legs are a bit to IK snappy too, be careful of moving the root so you wont end up with those.

On the whole I think the body lacks energy, wich you've made up for with those nice arm movements.

cheers.

nice, I don't have sound on my machine, but even without, it was very expressive animation... I have admiration for anyone who would take the time to animate four arms, each with their own fingers... good job...

The dialogue - is that yours or did you lift it from somewhere. No offence if its yours it just sounds familiar.

Mikael P- you worked with the barkabilly´s too? That´s hilarious. We did a project with him last year, and I needed a different character for this animation, so I dragged him out of the closet again... I re-rigged his body with my own rigging scripts- the old rig was a nightmare to work with, plus I added some nice stretchiness to the body. Kept the old blend shapes, although I should´ve added more controls to get rid of that stupid grin he´s got plastered all over his face! ....his hair and wings had to go too... they were just aweful!

You´re comments about his hips/weight are right on the money, IMO, and I certainly agree with this...I´m not sure if I´ll have time to fix it though :annoyed: hmmm... we´ll see.

The legs are a bit to IK snappy too, be careful of moving the root so you wont end up with those

yeah, I know what you mean- I hate that! I´m still trying to find a better approach to producing cleaner leg/hip coordination...

Conanart- the audio is NOT mine, and I believe it came from the movie Time Bandits, but I´d have to check that.

On a further note, I´m looking for more web resources to find better audio files... anyone have some good links? So far I´ve gone through dailywav and wavcentral...

Thanks guys for the feedback!

:) yes, I did work on the Barkebille/Petra project too. I think the company I worked for were the initial party the Norwegian guy contacted (a Swedish company in Gothenburg). I came in in the middle of production. Models and everything were allready created.
We animated like mad, 10 seconds a day 1-4 characters each. For about two months. Then everything collapsed, I dont know if they got bust or what happened. But we ended up getting no payment. Just a silly server.

oh, that grin how I hate it. Yes, it's certainly something you should try and erase.
Polishing animation is good for you, finish it! Forcing yourself to work with something you've gotten bored of can be good sometimes.

For sound, I'd suggest the ten second club. Their monthly wavs are usually really nice. 10sc Club (http://10sc.org). Maybe you should even considering joining their monthly contest.

cheers.

The truth is, I don´t always like them. The wav for this month, for example, is very dull, in my opinion. Some of them from the past are a bit better...maybe I´ll go through their archives and pick out something.

Dude, sorry you didn´t get paid for the petra thing. :annoyed: We were called in to "fix" it and worked 2 or 3 weeks straight. A real nightmare. The day after it was finished, most everyone was fired too...:thumbsdow

cheers-

No, all of them aren't great. But there the ocassional gem here and there.
Sounds like that whole project just brought bad stuff with it.

Fun animation, and nice site!

I really liked all of the head and facial animation, and most of the walk. They got the emotions across very effectively.

What caught my attention as looking wrong was the way the arm motions duplicated each other at times, like how the right arms do exactly the same gestures during "microchip and silicon revolution" and in other places with big gestures. I think this has the effect of looking like unnatural twinning.

Also in the part where he says "look how he spends his time" and walks forward with three quick steps...this walk seems not to fit the dialog. Maybe it would be more emphatic if he took a step, stopped abruptly on the "look" and then another step and stop on the "time" to get the emphasis across more with the body motion.

great stuff!
