Hi Guys,

As some of you know, I have been delayed in posting rules and assets for the next challenge.
(A crazy last minute April 1st dateline at work being the culprit, Let just say that my Mac and I are not on speaking terms.).

So lets do the following.

If you want PM messages with updates on when the challenge will go live, of when assets are being posted, just reply to this thread.

This thread will help me keep at the prospective participants in the loop.
Thanks for your patience,

-R

Ive been keeping a daily eye on the forum to see when the challenge officially starts. Trying to not do much of anything besides gather concept examples until then.

Hi there everyone!!! Mech wars looks like it will be a very exciting theme!!! This will be my first challenge and as i want to be dedicated to Fx and compo i am gathering a small crew of artists (prop and charater modelers and rigger/animator) to work as a team for the next month!. Lets see if we can make something decent!
Really looking forward to start on this one!

Hiya Roberto...this one got my interest too..even if only as observer.

Best with your unpack...it slows the work down, but I find a 6 pack always makes me feel better about jobs like that. :D

Guys I got a ultimatum from my Fiancee about unpacking last night...
I hope this explains why I am taking a bit longer to launch the challenge.

Tell your significant other what I told mine: "Until you can lug 50 lb boxes up and down stairs over and over again, then get used to doing the packing/unpacking."

If you say this in conjunction with doing a horrible job in doing some initial unpacking, then it can be super effective.

mustan9

Put all the boxes in the garage or basement, then tell her you're done. If she insists you unpack the boxes, then just open them up and dump then on the floor followed by "Do you think this stuff will fit under the bed?"

When you hear her complain that you're useless, then you're on the right track ;)

These are the things you must master before you head into marriage, or else you are doomed!

I know what you mean. I am getting married in 5 weeks and my Fiance' is demanding more and more time LOL. I really hope to be able to participate in this challenge since I have been waiting for it for so long.

Hehe, I really do enjoy modeling the most. I'm convinced that if I were as old as I am now back in the 70s and 80s I'd be building physical models for movies instead of in 3D :)

I tried building physical models when I was younger. Dreamed of making a 1/8 scale X-Wing fighter from StarWars, but I ended up gluing my fingers together. I had to go to the hospital... it was a bad experience... I don't want to talk about it...

My father in law had a nasty fall, (he is over 70) and he had to have emergency surgery for a broken hip.

Thank God he is out of the woods now.

Sorry if I'm posting this in the wrong place, but I'm trying to get my bearings when it comes to these micro-challenges. I've been studying CG intensely for about a year, and I was advised to check these forums out as a way of taking my skills to the next level. I'm interested in visual effects, so the FXWars forum seemed to be my best bet (and this thread was the most currently active).

Can someone please provide me with a basic orientation as to how challenges here work? I've looked over the previous efforts and the rules seemed pretty straight-forward - VFX shots or scenes built around a theme. What I'm confused about is the current challenge (Mech Arena). I notice that it's been delayed a few times and asset creation keeps being mentioned - does that mean we're supposed to use provided models when the challenge begins or is that optional? When exactly will things be getting underway (I saw something about a "soft start")? Also, how would I go about joining a team? The last post in the teams thread was over a month ago, so I don't know if it's dead or what.

I apologize for all the obnoxious questions; please take pity on this poor newb!

Sometimes assets are offered, since to help people get past the modeling stage and into the actual fx stage. It's just there to help some people out. You're in no way obligated to use any of them, and in fact most people use their own.

japetus is modelign right now a very sweet mech shell,
and me and spurcell are doing a base enviroment.

Give us at least a solid week, or better yet, joing us in developing common assets.
