View Full Version : Personal Site: Please crit on layout
Omnicrola 10-22-2003, 09:29 AM Really, honestly, not trying to get anyone to look at my gallery, just ignore it!
What I'm looking for is some crit on the site's layout and design. I used Maya for the major elements, and a lot of Photoshop work as well. I'd be much interested in hearing if anyone can differentiate between the Maya and PS elements.
So glad I found this forum/board. Up until now all the critisizm I've had is uh.... nill. My circle of friends on and offline give me nothing but praise, which is nice, but not all that helpful.
Site is www.omnicrola.com (http://www.omnicrola.com)

Cool site
On every link but the gallery link the navigation stays consistant.
Once in the gallery I like the forward back capabilties for paging but I don't like that I lose my main navigation and the red back button being labled "BACK" is a little confusing.
Other then that it's really just my opinion so take it with a grain of salt.
The design seems too soft to me. It looks as thow you were going for a futuristic sort of apple plastic composite sort of look with the rounded white edges and the stark colors.
Good basic design but just seems to soft.
Maybe not so much drop shadow and glow effects.
I like the structure of it very much. I could see a flash version of this where the parts are mechanical and move for transition effects like a big latch releasing the next page.
Overall it seems big and soft and just needs sharpened, hardened up a bit. Maybe make the fonts a little smaller the outter structure a little smaller. Take away those blurry effects and try some other color then light blue. Think alien composite armor to get the look i'm thinking of.
Again the design crits are just my opinion and everone has their own tastes. Good site and good luck.

i'd think the light blue background could be fine ... the thing that blows it for me though is the oversaturated primary colors
especially on the gallery page ... it dominates over the image ( my eye when scrolling the page sees that instead of the art )
it would be curious to see this in all desaturated blues
the forward/reverse buttons, while needed in the future are pointless now even though they are clean... my philosphy LESS is BEST ...
overall it's got this atari/ps1 thing going which i like ... it's smooth and a nice mix of tech/ergonomics ...

Well it's good to know I hit my major points. :) Simple yet elegent/ergnoramic ish.
Yes good point with the gallery being overrun by the frame. Very obvious now that it's pointed out.
As for the other occurances of the primaries, I was hoping to keep them, but not overpower anything else. I like their presence, but I never intended them to grab your attention. Perhaps if they where half-desaturated?
Hit it on the nose schroder. ;) My original plan was to run it through aftereffects and make a flash interface, but I was anxious to replace my aging former site, and so I did this instead. I hope to do a nice flash version sometime in the future.
