View Full Version : Dominance War V - 2D - ZzMeister - Goddess of Swords
03-20-2011, 03:21 PM
The subject that i'll be doing is the Goddess of Swords. A babe who plays with blades.
Will add more details as i continue to brainstorm . Good luck to everyone.

Ok finally got something up, trying out different looks
Thinking of adding a persona for the goddess or maybe an animal sidekick. Better think faster :)
03-21-2011, 03:36 AM
hey man, nice to see you join the comp
why so small image? :P
anyway, number 1 have the coolest pose, but i'll wait til u upload a bigger res.
03-21-2011, 04:50 AM
Good Luck with the challenge man.
Bring on those blades and the curves ! :D
03-21-2011, 12:16 PM
1,2 and 5 look cool with my personal favorite being 2 because of the general pose, weapons and rogue-ish like look.
03-25-2011, 06:36 PM
I love your sketching style, it's pretty unique. I would say that #3 and #4 look the most interesting to me, especially with the floating swords. I do like #2 but it looks a bit generic, and #5 too symmetrical with the circles in back. :)

Hi guys thanks for the support and suggestions
Threedsquid - i made the images bigger now hope its better to see my messy strokes.. lol
redCigerette , Darkonerster , pixel-chick- thanks for the support will try more poses for the final piece.
ok, finally was able to finish up 2 more concepts during the weekend, will try more poses soon.
The first one is a combination of the armour from (1) and the legs of (2) with the collar piece from (4)
The second piece is a reworked version of (2) with the idea of blades in a circle from (5)
I guess my final piece will be a mix of these two designs and refinement as the poses come along.
... and yah i think i need to polish my anatomy again. :(
Cool sketches and concepts. Like a lot your last design with a huge sword but maybe the other pose is more dynamic :)
Good look and waiting for more updates. Cheers!!

Hello everyone, sorry for the late reply as i have been tied up with work and stuff.
Ferx - thanks for the support, good luck on the challenge too
I have been trying out some poses and using the ideas from the concepts earlier on. So now the right arm of the goddess is fused into the huge sword.
I had problem going into the fine details of the image, luckily a friend of mine suggested that i lower the opacity and use finer brush strokes. Less mess less stress.. :)
this is another version with the head looking the other way
will be looking at references for the armours and stuff as well as swords.
The legs are making the goddess too human.. maybe will replace them.
Hope to make more progress soon. Good luck everyone. :)

I really like this idea of fusing weaponry.
Is the weapon it self solid? and the area around the goddess more like galetin? water? bathe in light?
cant wait to see more!
keep going bro!
04-10-2011, 04:21 AM
Hey! Great to see you here, cool concept, i like the last one you post, more god feeling, good luck on the challenge!!
04-11-2011, 06:27 PM
Thanks for the support everyone :)
PuiArt - glad you like the idea, the sword will be metal but some parts may still be forming up from the hand of the goddess (at least that's the idea for now). Those areas around the goddess are meant to be filled with other kinds of swords, its just to remind me in case i forget.
Hi Kingston, great to see your comment too. Saw your submission for the PreDW and it looks cool man, great use of zbrush. Catch up sometime soon. Thanks for the support. :)
I have been playing with the head position for awhile to get a nice feel for the whole picture. Will still be playing around with it, but will nail down soon and start on the front, side , back views.
Also did some research on swords and did some concepts based on the references. Will try some funky looking ones the next time.
Thats it for now, good luck everyone :)

Really liking the pose man..Great going!
04-12-2011, 08:33 AM
Nice starting, I like the idea.
04-13-2011, 12:12 AM
the last one at the bottom looks badass
04-15-2011, 03:42 AM
Yo Ishan, thanks for the comment, will work a bit faster and make it in time.. i hope :)
davidramonilustracion, yigit - thanks for the support, glad you guys like the work.
Have been looking at polishing the pose and thinking of the background. Was lucky to have some friends take a look at my work and get suggestions.
So here is a block out of the background, i am thinking of swords lying around and slowly getting absorbed by the goddess.
The feet of the goddess have been adjusted, i did not like the head gear and i am still thinking the gestrue of the left hand.
Gonna do more over the weekend. :)
04-15-2011, 06:13 AM
I like the idea, but isn't she going to carry any sword?
04-18-2011, 05:23 AM
Hi lepilo, glad you like the idea. Maybe the sword forming up at the background is not clear. I'll work on it, thanks for the comment.
Over the weekend i decided to take away the helmet the goddess was wearing and add a bit of details on the face. i also changed the position of the left hand so she is now holding part of the blouse.
i went and designed the big sword that will be fused from her right arm.
but i realised a mistake and that is the back of the sword will be formed up slowly (meaning i do not need that much detail there) and also the logo will be blocked by the goddess's head.
i added some value in this one too.
will look at where i can put the logo and also revise the sword design as well as how the right arm forms the sword. gonna work faster... and smarter :(
04-18-2011, 01:05 PM
good job! i love the big sword as a big silhouette on her back and i like the overall feelings also, cant wait to see the next update!
04-19-2011, 01:43 PM
Very nice, can't wait to see more.
04-20-2011, 02:32 AM
Hello everyone, thank you for comments
DerrickSong - Thanks for your comment, i enjoy looking at your works too, its looking very epic..great job!!
Amolas - thanks for the support.
I began working on the dress and did a first pass the edges to make a wavy feel. was thinking of a white underneath at this point of time.
I could not resist the temptation of revising the big sword. so i went and overlay a few swords and came up with a slimmer looking one. Made it bright this time.
Put it into the picture and noticed it is competing with the dress. So i adjusted the levels of the dress and made it dark for this one. Maybe i will go with this one and do more work on the values. (if it doesn't work out i'll just change it..lol)
will continue to tweak the values and start detailing further. Gonna drown in caffeine
comments are welcome :)

I love that pose! Very dynamic! I also like the second sword design (white one). Looking forward to see more! Good luck!

Hi ersinerturk, thanks for the support.
Sorry for the late replies and updates. I'll try to describe more of what i did in these two posts.
Been researching on dress and armours for the design. and came up with one below
The dress have been reworked and added another layer to add some details in the dress. (It also covered the panties....tsk tsk)http://img820.imageshack.us/img820/346/polishdressv2.jpg
I was thinking how the goddess would look like when not in battle.
After that i rough out the battle armour and also try designing some fx to show the fusing of the right arm to the sword. (not looking good).
The hair of the goddess has been bothering me too, it is as if something behind her blew up.Will probably redo a clean one on paper before putting into photoshop.
The next post is the armour detail and background and the new hairdo. :)
05-02-2011, 04:53 PM
I have blocked out the pieces of armour in this one and tried adding patterns and carvings to it.
In the next one i have changed the hair and created the details in the background with swords. I have also changed the way the arm is fused to the sword. It was done with brush-eraser iteration until some interesting shapes takes form. I also changed the blade to try out a look.
Will be cleaning up the details and coloring it soon as well as starting on orthographic views.. finally..
Comments are welcome. :)
05-02-2011, 07:06 PM
Gorgeous piece. Definitely will be keeping up with your progress. Best of luck!
05-03-2011, 06:38 AM
Alrighty! Now we are talking mate.
Another layer for the dress works well. The hairs are coming very well too. Was a little curious previously how you would go about them. The surroundings have slowly started to show up now and hope all those swords will add a lot more to the whole composition.
Looking forward to the merging of the hand with the sword!
Keep them coming man. Looking great!
05-10-2011, 01:16 PM
arkoz- thanks for the support
ishan - thanks bro, will try and clean up the composition and color really soon.
Been feeling ill and trying not to mess up the coloring. so I worked on the orthographic views instead. I have drawn a rough front, side and back view for the goddess, will tighten the details a bit more and work on coloring the final work.
Good luck everyone, thanks for the support.
05-15-2011, 01:17 AM
hello everyone, just found out that the challenge has been extended. phew.. more time to polish.
So below i tried some colors to see how it looks and adjusted the lighting as well.
Will be working on the forground and the glowing sword once the colors are nailed down.
going all out from here. All the best to everyone. :)
05-15-2011, 11:52 AM
hi all, i have been adjusting the brightness and also started cleaning up the sword and the foreground.
I felt the previous post was too bright so i toned it down for this one so that later when i do add the light effects it won't be overwhelming. As for the color, i think i will try this one out and see how far it can go.
c&c are welcome :)
05-21-2011, 04:50 PM
Almost done, almost there. The power in the eye just did not fit well so i removed it.. adjusted the color and tweak the tones and finished up the modeling sheet and workflow sheet. Will continue to polish the final concept with the hours left.
Thanks everyone for all the encouragement and advice given during this period. I learnt a lot from it. Hope you do too. :)
05-21-2011, 09:01 PM
very impressive, modeling sheet looks cool too... good job!
05-22-2011, 02:01 AM

Hi Kingston, thanks for the comment good luck for your entry too.
Randize, thanks for the support :)
Ok i did some final tweaks and tightened brushstrokes (nothing major changed..lol) so this will be my final submission, but still figuring out how to submit my edited entry in the DomWar Final entry page... lol
This is a portion of the simple background of swords i did and a close up of the face where you can see the eyes but they seem to disappear in the final piece... too small. :(
A close up of the sword
Good luck in the competition everyone... all the best !! :)
