Hi

I would like to know how to scale a specific part of my mesh in an animation.

I know how to rescale the bones and the mesh visually in the viewfinder-window but not how to make it with keys so that a part of the mesh "spawns" or "shoots out" at a specific time.

This is what I want to do:

I have the blade on his left harm 100% skinned to his "LeftHand". I want the blade to shoot out half way in the animation and then disappear again. How do I make that animation?

Thanks!

I succeeded how to scale the bone in Motionbuilder. All I had to do was to Plot to the Skeleton and then scale the bone.
This worked great in MB and in Max. But it does not work in UDK(Unreal Development Kit).

Does anyone have any idea how to do this another way?

I also have another question, how to scale an animation proportionally?
Lets say that I have a walk cycle of 24frames and is 1 second. How do I make the animation for example 2 seconds?

Thanks!

2 ways to scale the animation length.

send the animation into story mode, or grab all your keys for everything and stretch them in the transport timeline.

In story, you will want to switch the loop/scale clips funtion so it is set to scale. From there stretch your clip to the new desired length.

If you go the timeline route, turn off the snap and play on frames option, as it will cause jittering in your animtion.

Thanks for the answer!
Well I read about the story mode in the MB help but I dont understand how to get my animation in there. It's just blank. I tried to plot differently e.t.c. but nothing worked.
How do I get my animation in the story mode?

You need to insert a character animation track. In Story, right click in that grey area off to the left. (Insert>Character Track)

Then you need to select the correct character in the pulldown. From there the pulldown that says none, hold down on it and select your character.

Ah, awesome, thanks!
I did like you said now but what I didnt do was to right click and choose "Insert Current Take" now I see "Take 001" there.
But how do I change the speed/scale of the animation?

If I drag or change the numbers in Properties it only changes when the animation stops - in the middle of the animation. It does not scale it.

I want the hit animation to stop at (for example) 12 frames in stead of 27,6 frames.

Thanks!

I still want to know how to scale the animation. How to get the little box where I can self choose exactly at what frame (with decimals) I want the animation to stop. And I want the animation to scale proportionally to the time (half the time = twice as fast animation).
