So I have began working on my God, a very interesting theme and also quite a difficult one, what makes a God a God? My first idea was the Sun, so I'm rolling with that every design shall incorporate the Sun in some way or another as perhaps a power source and a striking symbol of a Godly form. Here is the background story for this Hybrid God.

Bellow are a series a quick thumbnails I drew just throwing down ideas, I want a very loose almost Ethereal feel to the thing, and as I'm going with Hybrids it will be part machine part organic material.
I have yet to finish going through the thumbnails but at the moment I like the design second from the bottom on the left, big swept back wing like structures and 4 spider like legs.

Here are some refined concepts, took my favourite thumbnails and added a bit more detail, using the polygon lasso tool I made a series of shapes and arranged them in different orders to get the mechanical feel of the creature. Out of these concepts I originally liked #6 the most but the flying one #1 and #2 I began to like more, I think I will try to mix the 2 designs together and see what I get.

After reviewing the above concepts I decided I liked the flying one more than #6 the walking one with swept back "wings" as a result I decided to create a refined concept taking both concepts and working them into one. The result is this squid like creature with a sun on its back, 4 legs as well as a few thinner tentacle like strands. It would also have the ability to walk, its legs would sweep forward and it could then walk around similar to #6 concept.
I also did away with the solid wings as they obscured too much of the design, instead I've gone for what will most likely be a semi translucent "energy wing" likely produced by the energy from the Sun on its back.
Still got some refinements to make but I'm liking it so far.

Did a rough front, back, and side view of the God to get a better idea what the design is like. I also made the sun about twice the size.

Moved onto head concepts, I like the idea of either having one big round eye or multiple round eyes in a random pattern similar to that used on the Sentinels in The Matrix. Its something about circular eyes on machines, especially evil ones, that make it so much more creepy looking. The head also has some organic material on show, similar to veins, muscle and even a brain like blob thing.

Began work on the position and composition of my God for the final image. It's all still rough blocking but you get the idea.

Started to work on composition and the image as a whole, messing with ideas. This one hes smashing through an old elevated highway in a desolate city.

After looking over the above image I decided I hated the composition it didnt feel Godly enough, just some metal thing plowing through a highway. So Ive decided to change the POV so that the viewer is looking up at the God thus making it feel more massive and strong. A change to a portrait view helps this shift.
