i've got a little problem with max5.0

when the control bar at the bottom (viewport/camera controls; command-line window or however it is called) isn't used for a longer time, it disappears. to bring it back i press "2" twice, so that the UI is refreshed and the bottom part is brought back.

does anyone know how to lock it permanently so that it won't disappear anymore?

First, get the free 5.1 update. Fixes a lot of instabilities.

Second, I usually leave the menu tab at the top of the UI. It has never disappeared for me unless I press the hotkey that toggles hide/unhide.

Third, if still occuring, then delete the 3dsmax.ini and restart max.
