Yo!
Hi everyone. I am having a main problem with Illustratate cell-shader plugin with Max4.2.6

I am trying to create a texture-mapped face for a toon-esque character. Its simple mapping but requires that the texture map uses opacity maps to mask off the bits around the eyes etc. to reveal the head and its native colour underneath.

I cannot get this to work. Any ideas, anyone. I was using gif transparency since Targas didn't seem to work at all!

And once the face-GIF is in place the head colour seems to go to default grey???

Desperately seeking answers to a major production problem!!!

PS And also I even tried creating poly's in the eye sockets and mapped eyes onto these to control eye movement by moving the UVW Gizmo but tho it displays OK in the Illustrate render the map is all chewed up and fragmented.????

if you're using illustrate and want transparency to show you need to assign the shader as "MAX Material" in the illustrate control panel. Then it'll render bitmaps and transparency. (although it causes problems of it's own)

Well, your advice has managed to save my entire project!
I am now able to map faces onto the characters, using opacity masks by using, as you said, Max Material within Illustrate! and still render out in cell-shading.

The magazine can now go ahead as planned! Cheers so much!

...now how do I make shadows??
