Hello everyone!

My name is Florian Desaunay.
I'm a french environment artist and I choose to open this topic in order to have as much critics on my work as possible.
Curently I'm searchng for a job anywhere in the world in video game industry.
I hope work hard with your critics will allow me to build a realy nice and professional portfolio.

I've already open a wip on a french website call 3DVF and on game artisan.

I recommends you to go see at my wip on game artisan if you want to learn more about my skills! =)

Here is the link : http://www.gameartisans.org/forums/showthread.php?t=18585
From now I'm going to post my work on those 3 website in order to be as visible as possible and getting a lot of returns to improve my work.

So here is my first work for this cgsociety topic! =)

I'm working on this element:

http://img832.imageshack.us/img832/6599/presentation00.jpg

And now the beginning of modeling.

http://img859.imageshack.us/img859/2416/presentation01.jpg

Here is the kink to see bigger image
http://img859.imageshack.us/img859/2416/presentation01.jpg

I've build this model with the modular building technique, using instances in Max.
This is more than a low poly model. Many things wich are here modeled are going to be baked later.

Here is the process I'm folowing

---Modeling in Max of every unique part with a medium level of detail.

---Import in Zbrush; Sculpt each part one by one.

---Import in Topogun of every high poly part and retopologize.

---Import low poly elements after retopo in Max, building the low poly model with instances and unwrap.

---Import every part of the low poly in zbrush in order to put them onside the high poly.

---Export to Xnormal in order to bake everything.

---Texturing in photoshop.

---Real time rendering in Marmoset, maybe Unreal engine( i need to learn more on environment creation in UDK before before)

--- Maybe I'm going to render that in max with displace map, normal, spec and diffuse using vray and vue for water plane

Thank's for reading! :bounce:

Ah ah! Yes it is!!
This place looks wonderfull! You're a really lucky guy! ^^

Here are some few updates. You can see HD links under images ;)

First I've modeled The bird statue In Zbrush with Zsphere and zsketch.
Then I've import the high poly into topogun and made a retopology.
The low poly has now 250 polys

Here is a baking test.

http://img858.imageshack.us/img858/3025/presentation02.jpg

http://img535.imageshack.us/img535/5136/presentation03.jpg
http://img15.imageshack.us/img15/5136/presentation03.jpg

Then I've begun to work on the blocs wich are around the platform.

http://img402.imageshack.us/img402/1323/presentation04.jpg
http://img850.imageshack.us/img850/1323/presentation04.jpg

I'll change the flower sculpt and merge the first one instead of make a projection.
It will give more volume and a realy better normal map.

Any critics are welcome!

Hi there!
I'm coming with an oher image today.

This is some parts of the indian temple, sculpted in Zbrush.

http://img402.imageshack.us/img402/4492/presentation06.jpg

Now that I'm looking to my image, it seems like edges are too soft on the pillar.
I'm going to work on that.

Good evening!

Real nice stuff man, your texture usage of 3* 2048's is pretty expensive in comparison to the modelling detail. I'm not saying you should optimise your textures, but for the sake of adding a few more hundred tri's (probably less) I'd be tempted to smooth out the silhouette of this model.

You should make a scene out of that temple. It would look great in a simple setting; some fields, a bit of water, some trees in the background and some mountains in the far distance. The flags add a bit of colour which is nice, maybe a few more? Or something else that adds a splash of colour, a few people or an offering of fruit...

Hi Urgaffel! :)

Thank you so much for your feedback!
Thats a really great idea!
I can't work on that right now but I keep it into my mind for later!
Thank you!

So for this Uncharted phurba:

I have just finished to retopologize the model and here are some real time renderings made in Marmoset.

Solid work Florian. My only crit on the phurba would be that the final textures and shader settings make it look stylized. It seems as if all the lighting information has been created in the texture. Let the shader and different texture maps get this information across instead.

I'd consider softening some of the dark lines that are creating the contrast.

Have you used a separate specular map for this asset ? A separate coloured spec map to get some colour variety and speularity into the metal would have been nice as opposed to doing this in the texture.

Shader wise I'd play with it more to make it appear more metallic.
