Well, here goes. This is a quick skectch that I've done of my idea. I hope you can see what I'm attempting to produce here, unfortunately I tend to be a bit scribbly when I do quick drawings but hopefully it isn't too confusing :). I'll try and add some shading - perhaps even some colour - at some point to help with clarity.

Anyway, the view is of an interior of a structure of colossal dimesions, so vast that the walls disappear out of site into a distant haze, and above, the light of the outside world penetrates through a apeture that seems almost as far removed and indistinct.

Attached, or rather tethered, to the walls, via clusters of ambilical pipes, are cites that float within the cavernous void. There form appears to be a combination of organic (crustacean possibly) and mechanical - more organic than mechanical though.

That'll do for now I think :)

Here's another quick sketch of what one of the floating cities might look like. The upper section acting as the area of habitation, with stragely shaped towers and such (hopefully) :)

Neat concept!!
The sense of scale is just right and you can really feel that sense of awe!! I'm sure it will just get better!! :applause:

Thanks

Going to try and add some colour in Photoshop now. I've never tried this before so i fear the worst :D

Well, I've had a go at adding colour to my initial drawing and I have to say it was a lot harder than I was expecting -I've no idea how Craig Mullins does it :). I'm not overly happy with it, but I guess it isn't too bad for a first try at painting. I think I need a lot more practice :D.

Here's another with some glow in the dark recesses. I've just noticed that I've forgotten to include a couple of floating cities in the lower region, doh!

Thanks :)

I think overall the environment probably needs more work, the walls are probably going to look quite bland in 3D so I guess I'd better give this some more thought.

All crits welcome bye the way :)

Wow I really like this piece. It feels big, yet claustrophobic at the same time. I think the only crit I could give is that your central "pod" piece gets kind of lost between the huge monoliths on either side.

So far though great work!

Thanks ZrO-1 :). Yeah, I think it's certainly something I'm going to have to keep an eye on. The scale relationship between these two elements is going to quite important - both have to look massive, yet the danger is that the pod-cities will be overpowered by their environment :hmm: Perhaps I should have a go at it in 3D.
