well, my idea may be hard to explain so im gonna post some of my initial sketches. but i see a huge area and i am standing on a platform having just entered through a door, in front of me are these long almost infinite ribbion type things made up of fibre optic tubes and what appear to be held together by smoke, they seem to have been building somthing on a platform hovering in front of me and waiting behind it are an uncountable number of simmilar platforms lieing in wait for something.

OK, so i sketched this in like 5 min. and it shows but im really not the best sketch artist, but let this be inspiration to you all no matter how bad your sketches look we should share, so i better get to work on the real "sketch" so that I know what to model first.

I have been trying to create the ribbons of optic wires in max as splines with a beveled profile , then duplicating them many times, this has proven to be very geometry heavy and I cant even move around in the viewport, so I have been trying alternative methods, Im using ADVANCED PAINTER

this is the start of the "wire arms" Im using advanced painter to create the wires.

this is the wires without the box, these will containe more "wires" held together by smoke. obviously I have a lot of work to do, and I'll need at least a week for rendering!

the same set of geometry with a ripple modifier applied, this is how I plan to achevie the "ribbions of light"

this is the platform and "poles" (guard rail), the floating thing is one of the many platforms, now to step repeat and alter them. next up comes the layout of all the parts.
