How would I do this?
I want to have some text that floats in space. Some particles come in and make contact with the text, and disturb its axes(rotate and translate) but leaves the general locaiton of the letters intact.
get me going with that, and I'll buy a license.

Bullet has excellent constraints. You could easily set that up with some ball and sockets and/or springs being generated per letter, which also happens to be not too hard to do in ICE in general (which I understand momentum uses for front-ending).
You'd be fine.
Congrats to Helge for finding a venue to keep this project alive, and to Ben and the exo guys for picking it up.

Is there another documentation besides the one that comes with the demo? It just says WHAT you can do, but not HOW you can do it.

it shows how to get floating letters with Momentum. Very easy.
However, folks, please don't expect me to do a tutorial for every single use-case. Since the ICE integration is so extremely powerful, it is absolutely impossible to describe how you can achieve all of the effects that can be achieved with Momentum.
I will be releasing the other tutorials of the series on a regular basis.

I would have bought it already, but both my Softimage and MSDN subscription are up for renewal this month and my wallet is looking mightily thin . Hopefully I'll get it by the next paycheck.
Now, is there any chance of Gear getting some Helge lovin'? ;)

I don't want to push your good nature by helping me out Helli, but can you tell me how the letters can become springy? Is there something I can add to make them try to return to their original positions, until being struck by another particle?

of course. you will have to remember their original position, and use a linear velocity force that is pointing towards that center, instead of no velocity at all.
