View Full Version : Enchanted Forest - Environ/Textured - Carl
Hi, I've been following these forums for about a month and the quality of the work is amazing. Anyway, this is from an animation that I coincidentally began working on May 20th. Not exactly an enchanted forest, but I think the vibe is similar. Might add trees later in the background. Keep up the great work everyone!:)

Welcome to the challenge! That's a neat little structure you have there! You keep up the great work too! :wavey:
Here's an update. My first attempt at a bump and color map. Still a ways to go. :wip:

That's a really good job for a first time map. I wish my first TEN looked that good.
I beleive the black at the end of the branches is because a cylindircal map was used and the branches pass outside of the projection. What you need to do is scale out the projection a bit to fit your whole model in. If it's not the geometry passing outside the projection, then a couple of places were missed in the texture map image.
It's actually a planar UV. Yeah, the black areas are just unfinished sections of that map. I'll be sure to get to that later :) Thanks Dodo;)
Just a little update. Is everyone having fun? Hehe :p :

That is looking good,
In the first Pic I thought you were making some sort of tea house on a branch but what is it, or what is it going to be?
And what is the baby doing there. It looks like it has been teleported or something.
Are you still going to make a sort of wall of rock on which the plant it attached or how do you think to fill the rest of the screen?

looking cool so far!:buttrock:
great texuring work you did there. and i especially like this curlywurly style of the tree!!
just change the background colour cause it kinda diverts attention from the cool lookin' foreground.
What this is going to be finally is a sort of renaissance well/fountain thing on top of the branch. This is a still from an animation I'm working on though, so it is not crucial that the fountain 'read' as a fountain in this shot, because it is shown earlier. The small figure is gonna be a holographic-esque projection coming out of the two towers on either side of the fountain.
For the background I was going to add clouds of course, and.....I'm still thinking of what else (time running out!) I'm still not sure about a stone wall, I might add some background elements instead....:wip: :wip: Thanks for the comments!

Hi Carl, your work looks nice so far but i have some qustions:
is this lw poly model or just low sub patch level for test renderings, and what is the balck areas on the branch?
Good luck :)
The branch is poly's. I was going to keep the poly count the same everywhere except for the curly parts, which I was going to increase unitl smooth. Do you think the hole thing could use more? The blackness in the curly parts is not final, I just keep forgetting to finish up that bit. Thanks for comments!
Well, I think this is the final. It's been loads of fun! :) :
I sadi earlier that this is a still from an animation. Here is another shot of it that I am working on. The character will hav scanlines and such holo style in the final.
